THIS IS A GRATE BOOK 4 U: THIS GIVES U INFO ON THE AIRCRAFT BUT IT DOES NOT TELL U THE SPEED,RANGE.OTHER WISE IT IS GRAET.
Typical Jane's work (which is to say that it is good).: My only regret is the stats are not detailed enough. Other than that, it is a thorough look at the airplanes of the world's current air forces. A must for any aeronautical fanatic. --don
Some errors: The book is good. The drawings are clear and detailed, and of course there are numerous (to say the least) aircraft portrayed. The color photos are a welcome addition. There are some notable errors though: -The F-22 entry features drawings of a YF-22 -The RAH-66 Comanche is missing its vertical fins on the sides of its tailplane -The Su-30 and -33 are portrayed as externally identical, when they are not (the -30 lacks canards most notably) -The CAC J-10 is missing (it was only recently announced, however it was known of widely before then) While their omission was not an error, entries for the X-35 (now F-35), X-32 and A380 would have been helpful. They featured the purely experimental MFI in the 2nd edition of this guide, so why not those other very significant but still in development aircraft? Still, a great resource for aviation ID. Especially good for modelers (both the plastic and digital types).
Great for Quick Reference: Jane's has always been a trustworthy name that I have looked to for information on aircraft, especially military aircraft. This book covers it all, from light aircraft to Bombers. Each page has a full color photo of the aircraft, along with a small description, 3 view diagram, variants, features, and the aircraft's specifications. I used this book for the "NIFA" Competition of Aircraft Identification, and it greatly helped me. Definitely good for anyone who wants to know quickly what kind of aircraft they are looking at without much hasstle.
A good reference book: The author has tried to be very judicious wth his description of the different aircraft. But colour photographs would have made the book more popular. Also some more technical information and detail about the aircraft would give more idea about them. But, the book gives a good idea about the dimensions and armament of combat aircraft. Here, the year in which it entered service should be seperately mentioned.
