My dog wouldn't touch the food from this book!: This cookbook was a real disappointment. We've tried 5 or 6 recipes and none of them were any good. My husband started calling my crockpot the crap-pot because the recipes from this book were so bad. Even our dog refused to eat the chili from this cookbook. There are many other good cookbooks out there for crockpot recipes. Stay away from this one!!
Great Little Cookbook: I bought this book with some trepidation due to previous reviews. However, I was quite pleased with the simplicity, ease of use and turn-out of meals from this book. It is not a "gourmet" selection, does not offer to be one, and does exactly what the title purports. It offers quick, easy to prepare, tasty (and healthier)alternatives to the fast food gutbusters and fried offerings for those early to work, late home modern family days. It is a wonderful little book, suits it's purpose well and needs to be considered on that level. Great buy.
Good tasty recipes: I have used this book for years. Someone took my copy and I'm buying another. My favorite no-fuss recipes from the book are Asian-style pot roast and Italian-style beef stew. Even picky toddlers *really* like the beef stew. And if you're in Weight Watchers, you know that the points are low for good-sized portions of slow cooker meals. I highly recommend this book.
Worst Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever!: There are many much better slow cooker cookbooks out there...Mabel Hoffman's for example. I made two recipes from this book and both were barely edible. The combination of ingredients in most of the recipies are enough to prompt a gag reflex! ... Do yourself a favor and look into buying a different slow cooker book.
The one I turn to again and again!: I've had this cookbook for 6 1/2 years and it's stained, spotted and spattered! I use it so much! After reading some of the negative reviews I just had to add my two cents. Granted, some of the recipes are truly horrid, but you'll find bad eggs in any cookbook you buy. My favorites are the Red Bean Beef Chili and the Caribbean Chicken with Bananas. Practically everything I've made has turned out delicious. The author has excellent information on crock-pot cookery at the beginning (including how to add the best flavor to your food--always saute onions first! and why crockpots are safe). I had another crockpot cookbook but gave it away because I never used it.
