[.ca] The Acne Prescription: The Perricone Program for Clear ... (ISBN 0060188782)

From Amazon.com:
Acne: it's not just for teens anymore. Thanks to changing hormone levels, many women in their 30s and 40s (and some men as well) can expect to regain a part of youth they really didn't miss. It's not the curfew—-it's the problem skin. Early on in The Acne Prescription, Dr. Perricone (The Perricone Prescription) repeatedly emphasizes that half his patients are adult women. And really, this book seems written specifically for them. He refers to acne as a systemic inflammatory disease. His three-part program aimed at reducing inflammation emphasizes widespread dietary changes generally based on the glycemic index of foods, taking a variety of supplements, and using specific topical applications. The diet features plenty of water, several servings of salmon each week, and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. An extremely detailed guide to supplements offers an excellent education, and an illustrated yoga course provides a method of relaxation and gentle exercise. Few of the recipes from an extensive section are geared for novice cooks (almond flour pancakes with mixed berry compote, for example). If you're interested in curing acne problems from the inside out and are willing to make substantial lifestyle choices, you'll find this an excellent learning tool; in other instances, it may seem simply overwhelming. --Jill Lightner

The ripoff prescription:
This book is nothing more than a gathering of common sense plus recipes. The author provides little more to learn on how to treat acne than what can be learned by reading a brochure at a doctors office. Let me save you 20-30 dollars; Eat foods low in sugar, exercise, and topical ointments inluding a cleanser, toner, and topical cream. A quick breeze through at Barnes & Nobles will provide you with all the necessary information.

too womany:
I was a little put off by the fact that this book caters mostly to women as if men`s acne didnt matter or wasnt just as traumatic.I cant stand men that care too much about women and completely disregard their own gender`s health issues.By the way,did you know that acne and other skin conditions including rosacea have been linked to a human skin parasite called Demodex? Have your skin checked for demodex if its covered with alot of red and sore bumps and pustules before beginning an acne treatment program.I recommend "Clear Skin" by Dan Kern over this book.

A MUST READ:
What an uplifting experience. For those of you who have suffered from depression or low self-esteem due to acne, this is a must read. I have battled acne for 15 years. I have tried over the counter products, infomercial products and prescriptions, all to no avail. Within ten days I saw a dramatic change in my skin, however I waited two months to write this review because I wanted to see if the results would last. AND THEY HAVE!!! Dont let the gourmet dinners discourage you, I have yet to make one of them. I have been substituting with other foods for dinner. This book has all the info you need and is right on the money. Not only is my skin in its best condition in years, I am also waking up in the morning with no more backaches and my arthritis is practically non-existent. For the best results I recommend the supplements and topicals also. Dr. Perricone has changed my life.

This book is good - worth reading:
This is a good book. It is filled with information that is helpful for everyone. Even though it is apparently targeted to acne sufferers, it contains a wealth of information about improving the appearance of the skin at any age and it sets you on the right path to achieving great health overall. The author's style is simple and straightforward. The program he outlines is excellent and within a few days of following his advice on diet, I had already noticed dramatic improvements in my skin. While the book may not be a thrill to read like many other novels or reading material you enjoy, it lives up to its claims quite elegantly. I recommend this book to anyone interested in improving the appearance of her/his skin and overall health.

Book provides excellent advice and results:
This book has been a tremendous help. I have had adult acne for over 20 years and have tried everthing (except Accutane), including 15 years of antibiotics with limited success. Many physicians, allergists and other health professionals are strongly of the view that diet plays no role and this book takes issue with this, provides evidence to the contrary, and a simple 4-pronged plan (diet, supplements, yoga and topicals)--even recipies are included. The diet is simple and enjoyable, and not difficult to follow or maintain. I have been off antibiotics for 5 months now and my skin looks great. A pleasant side-effect is that i've also lost 10 pounds and feel much more energetic.
