Everything a college student needs...: After some careful research and reading the reviews of all the German-English dictionaries on the market, I decided Harper-Collins was the way to go. I have found it to be very helpful. I especially like the way that the verb charts are laid out. It not only has the common singular form (es, sie, es) but also the du form. That is very helpful when one does not know the infintive form of a verb one is trying to look up. I feel this dictionary is a must have reference for anyone interested in studying German.
Loved everything but the binding: I took a copy with me on an exchange year in Germany. It was invaluable as a reference and learning tool, and I used it heavily in the first few months. Perhaps this is why the bingding glue began to disintigrate, leaving me with a book in chunks. The translations, however, are precise, cleaar, up-to-date and idiomatic. I especially appreciated the short middle section, which included a brief grammar, a collection of common phrases, and examples of business letters, resumes, etc.
