Anatomy and physiology for dummies.: In short, just a very informative book with several worthy goals. For one, it educates the reader in the inner workings of the human body. It does this quite entertainingly through trivia, facts, and interesting pictures (for instance the authors use a lot of elves). Additionally, the book also gives you many helpful tips on how to keep your body running smoother. While there is a lot information, I really would like to have seen a reference section at the end of the book to support its advice- some of it could be considered controversial in medical circles (who hasn't had the experience first-hand or at least heard of two doctors disagreeing about the treatment of a medical problem). All in all, a pretty informative and amusing read, it should enhance the well-being of many. Also liked "The Sixty-Second Motivator" for readers who have trouble making healthy lifestyle changes.
some useful information amid a lot of garbage: Some useful information in here. Very introductory, but has a lot of information in there that the average person wouldn't know. The actual meat of the book is buried beneath ridiculous metaphors, cartoons and elfs, and silly pop culture references. At least 50% of the book is completely useless, and this is why I'm giving it 2 stars. There must be something else out there that has the same substance to it, but in a much better form. I could not stand reading much of this book in its entirety, so I started skipping over the hundreds of page filling drivel in search of useful information. If they have this book at the library, maybe grab it and flip through it. But look for something better to buy.
Worth the time and money: I truly believe that this book is worth your time any money. First of all it is educational. The authors go to great lengths to explain the way our bodies work. Secondly, it is motivational. After reading the book it is hard not to follow the author's advice regarding healthy lifestyle. Last, but not least, the book is also fun to read. The writing style involves the reader and keeps him interested until the end. I highly recommend this book for everyone. For more comprehensive approach to the health issues I suggest "Can we live 150 years?"
How the YOU Dieters from Canada AM are doing from Dr Mike: 6 18 07 BLOG of Dr Mike Roizen related to YOU and RealAge by Dr Mike Roizen (One of the YOU Docs) at 5:33 PM PDT, June 17, 2007 Not fair that I gave it a 5 star but they wouldn't let me post without the ratings--so I gave it what I hoped you would: Over the last two years Dr Oz and I, along with camera crew and some others like nutritionist Jennifer of the Cleveland Clinic Canada, have done multiple home invasions to show what happens when individuals like you follow the YOU plan or YOU on a Diet, or now YOU Staying Young Plan. We haven't blogged in a few months as we've been working hard to complete YOU: Staying Young, The Owner's Manual for Extending Your Warranty. That book is now at the publishers so we can resume this blog. Many of you have written our free web site (www.realage.com/youdocs) to find what has happened, so we thought we'd start the update on Amazon. Here's our first update on what is happening to the three women who were followed for 2 months on Canada AM (like Good Morning America but the Canadian version)...since March 2007 or for 3 months they haven't been receiving coaching from me...or had the incentive of blogging on the Canada Am web site daily or appearing on the TV program...so how have they done and have they regressed. Read below---after the first week, two of the women convinced their hubbies to join them...and their kids may be the best beneficiaries, as they each say they have more energy and enjoyment of life. WOW: The Canada AM group of 5 is down 24.5 inches and 130.5 pounds compared to a loss of 21.5 inches and 101.5 pounds at 2 months. Each has lost more waist or weight--none have regressed, which is amazing. They have lost an average of 4.9 inches and 26.1 pounds. And all are still hitting the 10,000 step a day goal, all seem to be enjoying the waist and weigh in day. See below. What are their secrets: next week I share why I think they are still successful, but here are the first five steps of the YOU Diet Plan: 1. Measure your waist at the belly button sucking in, today and every week. 2. Walk 30 min a day no excuses 3. Dump the Fridge Follow the rule of five--if a product has one of these in the first five ingredients, toss it in the garbage as it is making you fatter and older, we believe: 1. Any saturated fat: if it comes from a four legged animal, it very likely belongs in this group, plus palm oil and coconut oil 2. Any trans fat: hydrogenated oils of any kind. Hydrogenated canola oil is a fake out--it is a trans fat--out with it!!! 3. Any simple sugar -these usually end in -ose like glucose or sucrose or fructose or dextrose. Exception in 100% fruit juices and in fresh fruit and veggies 4. Any syrup--these are usually another word for sugar as in high fructose corn syrup or malt syrup 5. Any grain but 100% whole grain; so 100% durum wheat is not 100% whole grain durum wheat--watch for the head fakes--they are as bad for labels as in a hockey or basketball game. 4. Automate Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks 5. Do the YOU Workout ( you can buy at Amazon.com, or download for free at www.realage.com ) My summary of how the contest winners and their partners are doing: START 1 19 07 3 2 07 3 23 07 6 16 07 SUM DAY 0 DAY 3 DAY 44 65 days 90 days 90 days CAROLINE WAIST 36 35 31.5 30.5 30 MINUS 6 INCHES WEIGHT 174 171.1 161.5 157.5 156 MINUS 18 P0UNDS PAUL WAIST 53 52 50 47.5 47.5 MINUS 5.5 INCHES WEIGHT 357 353 321 319 313 MINUS 44 POUNDS TAMI WAIST 35 34.5 32.5 32.5 32 MINUS 3 INCHES WEIGHT 180 176 168 164 160 MINUS 20 POUNDS JIM WAIST ?? 43 37.5 36.5 35 MINUS 8 INCHES WEIGHT ?? 244 226 219 206 MINUS 38 POUNDS SUZANNE WAIST 35.5 35.5 34.5 34. 33.5 MINUS 2 INCH WEIGHT 142.5 142.5 141.0 136.5 132 MINUS 10.5 POUNDS MORE NEXT WEEK..PLUS JODI AND HOWARD AND MICHELLE'S RESULTS TOO DR MIKE R OF THE YOUDOCS
Detailed, valuable and well researched: The book provides A LOT of information about the way your internal organs function. I guess your physician hasn't had the time to tell you all those intriguing things that an average person will learn from this big and content rich book. The style is down-to-earth and understandable. There are many cute cartoons and it is really a pleasure to read it. There are questionnaires, which I believe can help you to evaluate your way of living. If it is not very healthy then take advantage of plenty of advice that anyone can follow. Overall, I think that it's a very valuable and practical read. Another book, which also explains in details very important processes in your body is "Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". I enjoyed and highly recommend both books.
