I'VE READ BETTER: Here's another diet book, this one a "detox diet", meaning that the point is to rid your body of those awful toxins that build up over time. Thus you're supposed to lose weight, achieve greater energy and improved mental clarity. Regarding diet books: we're fast getting close to critical mass where there's a book on the marjket outlining every possible way there is to lose weight. It's confusing! Do this, don't do that... "21 Pounds In 21 Days" is a catchy title. I'm in the middle of the diet, not yet having completed it. I have dropped a few lbs. And I have slightly better energy. Improved mental clarity? Probably. Enough to know this diet is basically more smoke & mirrors. Meaning you lose some weight, yes, but it doesn't deliver on the miraculous life change it promised. For a hilarious parody of this type of hard sell diet book you can't beat Martha Bolton's "Maybe Life's Just Not That Into You". It sends up these type of diet books in FUNNY fashion. I think "21 Pounds In 21 Days" is an intriguing look at health and ridding your body of toxins. I just find it hard to believe most people have the discipline to stay on this limited diet, even if it is for a scant 21 days.
Another Concept: I was very enthusiatic and willing to try another attempt at losing a significant amount of weight by starting with the toxins in my body. What I didn't realize is how difficult it would be to schedule colonics in my area. Also to succeed with this program you must obtain the drink mixes, and detox pills from the specified website. However, these items are not shipped outside of the U.S., consequently detoxifying cannot be achieved by following the steps outlined in the book if you do not have the supplies. It did contain good advice, but save your money. Read articles and follow a good nutritious diet eliminating all of the bad fats and carbs.
Works for me!: After reading the book I thought it was an effective approach to detoxing and after 21 days I felt completely energized and also lost 18 lbs. I have read a few negative reviews here and elsewhere (along with very favorable reviews) and can only say to those who dont think people can be disciplined enough to do this detox..that is not the case for everyone. It comes down to how focused you are on either losing weight, ridding your body of toxins, etc. I did not do more than one colonic or enema and still lost the weight. Colonics/enemas are not as bad as they are made out to be. It is quite appealing to know you are ridding yourself of toxins and the way you feel after is well worth it. There was never a guarantee in this book about miraculous life changes..and to expect guarantees is just illogical..It will work for some people and may not work for others..especially those that do not follow it through.. I think those that found it impossible just did not have the will power to follow through with it..it certainly is not hard to get the items necessary for the detox..and soups and green drinks etc is hardly starvation. To those with the determination to follow through with a great program that HAS worked for some people..I highly recommend it.
21# in 21d- A Tall Order To Fill: Supposedly you can lose an average of a pound a day on this program. I'm not sure why it's called the "Diet Detox" because the book clearly points out that detoxifying is much different than dieting. This "program" works by you eating certain foods which detoxify your body. The goal of detoxifying is to cleanse and rest the body. But, since one of the natural consequences of detoxifying is that excess weight falls off, you'll not only have a cleaner running body, but a lighter one as well- as least so says the book. Lots of testimonial abound, which, by the way, is the poorest form of proof that something is effective. The book also offers a 7 day tune-up and a 2 day weekend cleansing as well. After looking at the book, I'm not sure I could bring myself to follow it, so I personally would only recommend it to those readers who are into this kind of thing. For the rest, I'd stick to the old fashioned way of losing weight by eating less and exercising more. Readers who need more motivation to make healthy lifestyle changes might also be interested in "The Sixty-Second Motivator."
