Waste of money: I was required to purchase this book for ASL1. The signs in the book did not match the signs I was taught in class. Both my ASL 1 and 2 teachers told me not to bother with the book. Unless you are going to be an interpreter, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! If you are going to be an interpreter, look for a better book. A much more user friendly book is, "The American sign language phrase book" by Lou Fant. ISBN 0809235005
Very nicely done: This is an excellent reference book for learning American Sign Language in a classroom or elsewhere. The descriptions of the signs are complete, and include an explanation of the sign's origin, making it easier to remember. I found the number of words to be absolutely sufficient for my purposes, which are elementary-to-intermediate study at NYU.
May be the best out there, but it's not the best it can be..: I was disappointed right away that not even the most basic colors are included. Found only blue and red...no green, yellow, purple. Look forward to using it as much as possible, but it needs some more expanding.
Good for beginners: I purchased this book when I began a level 1 ASL course at my University. It was helpful for that course, but quite limiting for use beyond that level.
Could be cleaner: This book had good descriptions of how to sign, it also had many signs that I don't want to know. When am I ever going to want to sign 'Marijuana?'
