Hannah Walters and the daughter of Johan Sebastian Bach: "Her voice runs like silk in the sun over the water and slides with shadows into the reeds" listen to how descriptive Barbara Nickel, the author is and how you can imagine it in your head. This book is all about overcoming your fears and believing in yourself. Hannah Waters is a young girl in your century that is trying to overcome her fear of playing the violin in front of an audience. She is also trying to forget the past, which brings memories of her mothers death. There is also another girl that is trying to overcome her fear of talking to her father and her father's boss. Her name is Catharina Bach, she is the daughter of one of the most famous composers ever, Johan Sebastian Bach. You think being a daughter of a famous composer is easy? I don't think so! This book is set in the 1720's. Catharina is a shy girl and is afraid to talk to her father. She struggles to cooperate, she thinks that she doesn't belong to this family because she doesn't think she has a talent to show... but she does! She is my favourite character because she has very beautiful images in her head and when she talks it to us it makes us feel like warm candle light and your parents hugging you so dearly. She has a lot of descriptive words! My opinion of this book is 5 stars out of 5! This book has mixed emotions, happy and sad! Love is a powerful thing to write about, and Barbara Nickel makes me cry when she does. Her writing is very exquisite and her word choice is very interesting. She describes the parts so well that you can see it in your head. There are some themes in this book, and I will talk about themes that stand out to me. Relationships are a very important part in this book and stands out really easily. In this book, Catharina has a very good relationship with her mother, but not with her father. She tries to talk to him but every time she wants to speak her mouth is always glued tightly. This means that she can't talk. To make it worse, her father left her family for a couple of months! How bad is that! These are some of my favourite sentences in the book. "In the candlelight it's the colour of...Mama's voice, the warm deep chestnut of it when she sings". I like how she compares the colour of the candle light to something you can hear. "In my head, I can hear the two violins criss-crossing and looping around each other like paths in a forest." This is just like the other sentence except she compares the two violin sounds to the paths in the forests. "I listen to mama sing as we beat Papa's shirts in the river." I like all these sentences because they are very descriptive and interesting. My favourite parts are when Catharina is describing the Concerto for 2 Violins, the piece looping each other and the haunting melody when she sleeps at night. Hannah is standing on the stage describing her emotions, like will everybody laugh at me if I make a mistake? What I think you should do is get this book and read, read, read because it is a great book, it is one of my favourites! My opinion about this book is... IT IS GREAT AND EXITING IN EVERY CHAPTER AND IT MAKES YOU WANT TO SCREAM! There is a very interesting and sad twist to this book. I recommend you to read this book; I know you will love it!
