reality: Kit Pearson's "Awake and Dreaming is a marvel. We are introduced to Theodora who struggles to survive despite her dysfunctional family situation. Finding solace and escape through literatue, Theo is finally rewarded with a bit of "magic" by way of Cicely, a ghost who appears to her and helps her understand her life in a larger perspective. Theo becomes inspired and in the end she comes to see her life more clearly and practically while remaining hopeful and imaginative. she becomes happy with who she is and this awakening strengthens her character as she resolves her aspirations to become a great writer.
Simply luscious...: Honestly, I cried many times. This book has a beautiful flow to it, and the beauty can't be described in words. I've read the plot the Bookreview had given it, and the plot didn't seem interesting. But trust me, this book is absoloutely worth it. Words don't explain everything:) Kit Pearson is a wonderful author, talented in capturing the reader's attention. I look forward to read other books by Kit Pearson. I'm only eleven, but I...I can't describe it. If you enjoy flowing poems, simply luscious words, aura and beauty, you'll definitely fit in to this book.
Beautiful: This book is somewhere between realistic fiction and fantasy. Though it deals with very real issues, it also deals with reality, and whether consciousness is a dream, and dreams are reality, and whether the two are so dependent upon one another that it is impossible to be only one. That we are all Awake and Dreaming. The person at the center of the story is Theo, who is being raised by a single mother who is much like a child herself. Clean clothes and good food are not things Theo knows much about. The setting is British Columbia, Canada, not an often written about place, and the book itself is just beautiful.
An interesting book: I really enjoyed reading this book. My favorite part was when the Theo, the main character, reads a book about a family and wishes she is part of the family. The next thing you know, she's she belongs to the family. Kit Pearson writes in a way that kept me interested the whole way through. I also heard this book read on CBC Radio. I've also read A Handful of Time and can't to read other books by her.
An 11 year olds review of Awake and Dreaming: I found this was one of the best books I have ever read. Kit Pearson has a way of writing so that you can not put the book down. I felt that I was in the book with the characters sharing their triumphs and sadneses. I also liked it because it always kept you guessing what would happen next. I recommend this for kids (especially girls) 9-12.
