[.ca] And on the Eighth Day She Rested: A Novel (ISBN 0312309899)

Very Good Reading:
I really enjoyed this book, very well written and looking forward to reading "One Day I Saw a Black King". Good Job

Therapeutic for all:
I thought this book was going to be only about the actual abuse during its onset, but what was so great about this book to me was that it shows the post traumatic stress syndrome bad relationships can take us through, coupled with how one woman made it through the worst. I cried along with Ruth about Adrian, felt like he had did it to me,....and as bernie began to get on Ruth's nerve as Ruth grew more as her own person, I would get mad at Bernie along with Ruth....I really felt like this book made me feel like I went through the ups and down's with this woman in her struggle, even when she was being stubborn I understood her need to do so. If the beginning is slow because you are looking for the actual beatings hold on and press through this book you will remember how to love your self through Ruth.

The Book of Ruth.:
Ruth Johnson finally has come to the realization that the marriage that had become a burden to her has come to an end, and after fourteen years of physical abuse from her husband, has gotten a divorce. After the proceedings, reading how she stumbles into her new life is a little slow, but necessary. With each chapter, a new woman is emerging from the shell of the old. Even love has appeared, and this time, she's taking it slowly and cautiously. With all that she is accomplishing, Eric the ex is still out there, and he has decided to ask Ruth for her forgiveness and "another second chance" to make it right. The author brings a descriptive pain on these pages that had me feeling each blow, and showcases Ruth's strong points and flaws that makes it possible to believe in the character. Excellent!

Eye opener!:
This was a good book regarding abusive relationship. I have never been in abusive situation. But I have known people that have been. You always ask, "Why do you stay?" But after reading this book I finally got the answer. Eric just was a very awful man with problems within his self. Poor Ruth, she was just his punching bag. How can you claim you love someone and treat them badly like he did. Things he done was very uncalled for. Then when Ruth finally got out of the situation with Eric (husband), and finally got the nerve to meet someone, Adrian walks in here life, then out. I felt so sorry for Ruth, but Adrian had nerve. I understand he wanted to be a father to his child, but there are other ways to handle the sistuation. I think he was just being selfish there. I don't know if I could had forgiven Adrian and took him back or not. Something to think about. Get the book!

Enjoyable book from beginning to end:
You root for the main character, Ruth Johnson from beginning to end in this book. You feel the pain that her husband Eric has put her through, yet at the same time you get impaitient with her for staying with him that long. When she finally does break free from her husband, you are allowed to see the transformation in Ruth, but at the same time you understand her vuneralbility and her hesitation in meeting Adrian. I read this book in two days, I enjoyed it that much!
