The Sugar Busters! diet lets you eat just about anything except certain carbohydrates, including refined sugars, red and white potatoes, corn, white rice, highly processed grains, beets, and carrots. This cookbook offers a variety of Sugar Busters!- acceptable recipes, averaging about 40 percent "correct" carbohydrates, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat. These recipes won't keep you in the kitchen all day, though most aren't produced in a flash, either. Breakfasts are predominantly egg dishes. Lunches include Stir-Fried Ginger Chicken, Chesapeake Crab Cakes, Whole-Wheat Spaghetti with Olive-Tomato Sauce, Fourth of July Macaroni Salad (colorful with red onions, tomatoes, green bell peppers, and onions), and Bayou Spicy Boiled Shrimp. Dinner entrées emphasize meat, fish, and poultry, with some regional and international dishes. The collection also includes separate recipe sections for vegetables, appetizers, salad dressings, sauces, and holiday dishes. Many recipes are high in fat, especially saturated fat, such as Green Chilies Cheese Casserole, which uses six large eggs and four cups of grated cheese to eight ounces of green chilies. No nutritional breakdown is provided, so if you're trying to keep your fat intake to 30 percent, you'll have to guess. The authors suggest finishing the meal with "dessert of a simple green salad coated with a subtle olive oil and milk herb dressing or a few bites of cheese" or "a few nuts." If those don't hit the spot, there's a choice of seven dessert recipes, including a high-saturated-fat vanilla ice cream made with six egg yolks, a quart of whole milk, a quart of cream, and a cup of artificial sweetener.


The Perfect Diet:
This diet worked for me four years ago. I lost 50 pounds. I'm returning to it because I gained weight after cancer surgery and reconstruction, during which time, I couldn't follow the diet as closely as I had. Now that I'm cancer free and ready to REALLY feel great again I'm going to cut my carbs and regain my slim, energetic body. It is easy to follow and, personally, I was never hungry or eating foods I didn't like.


Not for everyone.. but it DOES work:
As this book states, and any doctor will tell you this diet is not for everyone. This diet is for those who are pure and simple carbohydrate addicts, which I happen to be. My body can not deal with insulin the way it should, and my doctor pointed me very specfically to this diet. I'm here to tell you that it DOES work... however, it is not going to work for the majority of people. If your doctor has not told you that you are a carbohydrate addict and/or have insulin problems than this diet will more than likely not work for you. But... If you are like me, and you are a pure and simple carb addict then this diet is most definatly for you.


Another 5 star rating even with its' shortcomings ...:
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the original 'Sugar Busters' book, on the instructions from my cardio vascular doctor, I found the recepies quite interesting and bought this book for that primary reason .... Everyone that I know has one or another 'famous' diet for me to try but I have to admit that most diets follow some 'theme' and are not what I would call all-inclusive and do not really take advantage of the chemical processes inside our bodies as we digest our sugar laden diets .... The book starts with a primer of the Sugar Busters diet and listings of foods and spices that are recommended and which ones we should stay away from. The second main section of the book deals with detailed recepies. I have tried many of the recepies in the book and find the easy to prepare and definitely very tasty ... Excellent bean dishes and seafood dishes of course with some even from the unbelieveable kitchens of K-Paul (Paul Prudhome in New Orleans) The drawbacks of this book are one; it's certainly on the expensive side for a spiral bound book, and two; it has no .. i mean none, zippo, zilch .... pictures of any of the prepared dishes, certainly a drwaback to even the most humble of cookbooks that I have in my library..... Am I happy to have bought this book, yes, does it replace the original Sugar Busters book in explaining the diet, no .... certainly I would suggest that you read the full diet book first to completely understand the whole concept ......


An okay resource for Diabetics:
I don't think that this book is one of the best Diabetes books I have ever read. I do think that it helps a bit but most of the food tastes like my daughter's school lunches(and they're not that tasty). I guess I'm just not used to foods that do not use sugar as an ingredient. For those who think that this food tastes good, it's great that you can adapt to sugarless foods. It's not that easy for me!


A Great Quick Fix Diet Book.:
I am getting married in a month, so I bought this book to try and lose those extra pounds for the wedding. It's hard to believe that you can eat like this and still lose weight, but miraculously it is working! A lot of the recipes have a pretty high fat content so if you are worried about cholesterol, this may not be the book for you. But if you want to take off pounds quickly and are willing to follow the regimen, this book will do the trick. Fair warning - giving up sugar and carbs is really hard so you have to be determined. And the recipes are not always quick and easy. As a long-term way of life, I don't know if I could cook and eat like this every day. But for quick weight loss without starving yourself, this is the book to buy.
