[.ca] Paper Rose (ISBN 0373770219)

From Amazon.com:
Setting: Contemporary Washington D.C. and South Dakota Sensuality Rating: 8 Archaeologist Cecily Petersen has loved Tate Winthrop since she was a teen, but the handsome Native American refuses to consider a mixed marriage. Instead, he becomes her white knight, protecting her from an abusive stepfather and arranging college grants and housing. But when Cecily discovers that the "grants" were actually outright gifts from Tate, she's furious. Her anger shifts their relationship from friends to lovers and forces them both to confront deeply held convictions and fears. When Cecily learns of a political scandal that could threaten Tate, she's determined to shield him, even though she knows it's likely that he'll never forgive her for the necessary deception. With political scandal in D.C., nefarious shenanigans on the reservation, and sizzling passion between the hero and heroine, Paper Rose delivers everything Palmer's readers have come to expect and more. --Lois Faye Dyer

i liked it alot:
I generally stay away from contemporary romances but i kinda liked this one i mean it had two strong characters, and it had suspense, and i rather liked the love story. i don't think it was too predictable i understood Tate and his childhood and cecily had her hangups too, but in this case we do realise that they love each other mainly because they have known each other so long and the sparks were always there, i think this book is a keeper.

Still good!:
I read this book several years ago and just read it again and still love it. Tate was a man torn between his feelings for Cecily and what he felt was his responsibility and honorable. He used his refusal for a "mixed marriage" (which was definitely inane) as an excuse to stay away from Cecily. Cecily had loved him all her life although she felt she wasn't beautiful enough for him and they had no future. While some of their actions were a little annoying this was still a great love story!

So glad I gave it a chance!:
After reading the reviews here - either folks loved this book or they hated it - I checked it out from the library. Then as soon as I finished I ran out and bought a copy for my very own. What a terrific story! Unlike some other reviewers, I like that Tate has strong pride in his heritage. That makes it easy to understand his anguish at loving someone he doesn't think is who he needs. That makes the relationship all the more special, because the reader gets to see him grow and change and learn what is most important. This was my first Diana Palmer novel, but it certainly won't be my last!

A touching story....:
This is the first book that I've read by Diana Palmer. Tate and Cecily are very complex characters, both in spirit and personality. I found the story flowed well, though at times I felt like shouting my frustration at Tate's blundering idiocy. Now Cecily, there is a character I think alot of women can relate to. She is very strong, and when you read the story, you will understand what I mean. Although she is not beautiful, her spirit glows. If you want a touching story, with a touch of action and a lot love, this is what I recommend.
