[.ca] Trailside Guide Bicycling (ISBN 0393313379)

Great resource, hopelessly dated:
I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone getting started in mountain, road, or recreational bicycling. However, if you're new to the sport, you should know that you can only keep up with the latest in bike engineering and product development by studying this month's crop of bike magazines. Bicycling changes too rapidly. By the time any well-written bike book hits the stores, it's completely out of date and this good ol' book is six years old. Bicycle shifting mechanisms, wheel science, advances in frame geometry and materials, nutritional and training advice, safety devices, and developments in suspension have all become branches of rocket science and, to some extent, victims of corporate marketing and fickle fashion. Some things never change, though. Your feet still go up and down and the wheels go 'round. In that sense, much of the information in this book is timeless. But when the authors get down to their technical recommendations and start commenting on "the latest trends" you've got to try not to chuckle. They were working on the best information they had at the time. The best bicycling magazines come from England. david bogie, boise ID my other car is a Cannondale

And you thought all you had to do was pedal!:
Great primer. If you need to review the essentials, or if you are rediscovering the childhood glory of cycling, then this is a great place to start.Information is very easy to understand and apply.

An wonderful book to get a full overview of cycling.:
A very well written and superbly illustrated book to get introduced to the world of bicycling, both road and mountain. If this will be your first or only book on the subject, you cannot go wrong with it. A wonderful gift to go with your first bicycle.
