THE BOOK YOU CAN'T MISS!!: ... I Love This Book!!!! It was about a little wolf pup named Runt because he was the smallest wolf of the litter. Runt's mother's name was Silver. Silver had five pups.Three were boys. They were Thinker,Leader and Runt. Two were girls. They were Runner and Sniffer. Silver also had two other kids, a boy and a girl. The boy's name was Helper and the girl's name was Hunter. When Silver had the five pups, Helper and Hunter were just one years old. Runt's pack didn't get food everyday. Sometimes they had to wait three whole days. I don't want to tell the whole story so I'll stop, but I would recommend this book to anyone who likes animals.
Poor little Runt: This book was about a wolf pup named Runt. All of his brothers and sisters have names that describe them, like Jumper, Hunter, Thinker, and Sniffer. Runt wanted to go with the pack to hunt and he does but he gets in tons of trouble; he even gets blamed for killing his own brother. Runt has a pretty hard life. Read the book to find out how hard it is for Runt. My favorite part of this book is when Runt goes to be with his worst enemy. I like to read books that are kind of sad but turn out good.
Inspirational: I have read the previous reviews and feel I should add that the main ideas in this book apply to issues people encounter in life such as believing in oneself, overcoming obstacles, handling disappointment, excepting things as they come and as they are, being wise and cautious, and being optimistic. I don't know what the reviewer who gave this book one star was looking for but I have seldom seen a children's book that covers so much ground. It is even a good vocabulary builder. This is the first chapter book that my daughter has found interesting and she is not particularly interested in wolves.
Beautifully told story of a young wolf: This wonderful story introduces us to Runt, the smallest member of a wolf pack. From the first day that Runt sets foot outside of the cubs' cozy den, his life becomes a struggle to please his father and to earn a different name as well as a place within the pack. He passes through adventures that are both delightful and tragic. Every event in his young life brings learning that will help Runt survive in a harsh world that grants no special favors to the small and cute. The book is filled with details about the social structure of wolf packs. The author clearly spent a good deal of time researching the topic, but the information is presented with finesse. The reader never feels that she is being taught. Instead the information is offered in tightly woven vignettes. Since there are complete stories within the greater story, this is an excellent book to read aloud and the book can be read in several installments by young readers with short attention spans. Almost any child would enjoy this book, even those with no special love for animals.
A Wolf with Character: RUNT, like all books by Marion Dane Bauer, tells a gripping story in which the main character, in this case a young wolf, makes one mistake after another and through them learns and grows in character. In this case Runt competes with his siblings to gain a place in his pack and his father's approval as he seeks to show that he is more than just the runt of the litter. His adventures are increasingly harrowing making it difficult to put the book down. I found myself reading late into the night until I was satisfied that Runt would gain a satisfying measure of wisdom and belonging. Bauer is expert at telling tales that intrigue children while dealing with strong psychologicla issues in beautiful language that sinks deep into the reader's heart. Runt illustrates this one more time
