From Amazon.com: Are you a woman between 35 and 50 experiencing PMS, migraine headaches, sudden weight gain, fatigue, irritability, tender or lumpy breasts, memory loss, fibroids, or cold hands and feet? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of premenopause. Even if you're a decade or more away from menopause, your hormones may already be out of balance, usually caused by an excess of estrogen and a deficiency of progesterone, say the authors of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause. John Lee, M.D., is a well-known advocate of the benefits of natural progesterone and the author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. Jesse Hanley, M.D., adds sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual aspects of premenopause. The authors recommend natural progesterone cream to balance your hormones, eliminate premenopausal symptoms, and make you feel better. They also discuss the dangers of xenohormones--substances not found in nature that have hormonal effects--frequently found in pesticides, solvents, plastics, and hormone-treated meat. The book presents common symptoms of premenopause with suggested natural treatments (progesterone cream, diet, vitamins, and herbs) and substances to avoid, plus additional chapters on diet and exercise. Many case studies help to bring the information into perspective. If you are premenopausal (or close to someone who is), this is a valuable resource. --Joan Price
Learned the *very* hard way - Please Be Careful!: Dr. Lee's book convinced me to try natural progesterone, and it was one of the worst decisions ever. After only one month of use, I developed blood clots in my legs, and became so ill that it has taken over six months to recover. Progesterone cream builds up in your tissues over time and can make you very, very sick. Do not believe it when you read that there are no side effects and it is impossible to overdose. Know that the progesterone you're putting on your skin, although "natural", is capable of having all the same effects as the progesterone in birth control pills and RU-486 ~ in other words, you're using something with serious dangers connected to it. Please, please be careful. Get Barbara Seaman or Ellen Grant, MD's books for better information.
Please use with caution, it made me feel much worse...: I would like to caution all readers to PLEASE use natural progesterone ONLY after blood serum tests (not saliva tests) and proper diagnosis by an informed endocrinologist or health professional. This is not a benign product and can really cause problems when used inappropriately. Several months ago I began to have numerous symptoms (horrible brain fog, exhaustion, depression) which were related to a severe drop in estrogen. Homeopathic doctors treated me with progesterone, DHEA, and everything BUT estrogen, even though they knew my estrogen level was really low. The progesterone totally sedated me, and I have since found out that too much progesterone can sedate as powerfully as Valium! The simple fact is, if you are estrogen deficient nothing, and I do mean nothing, will take the place of the estrogen your body needs. Often younger women experience a low level of estrogen many years before menopause. If this turns out to be your problem, progesterone will only make you feel worse. I strongly recommend you read Dr. Elizabeth Vliet's books, "Screaming to be Heard" and "It's Your Ovaries, Stupid". I am on a steady dose birth control pill now (Ovcon 35), and day by day my symptoms are improving. PLEASE consider buying her books. They just might help you as much as they've helped me. Good luck!
Look No Further: If you're looking for testimonials for women diagnosed with fibroid tumors who used the information provided in this book to treat the fibroids, look no further. While an ultrasound showed my four fibroids were not unduly large, one had grown through the uterine wall, causing excessive bleeding each month, leading to anemia. Other symptoms indicated I had excess estrogen, for which this book suggested taking natural progesterone. (Note this is completely different than having low estrogen.) Nine months after beginning natural progestone treatments, another ultrasound showed all fibroids were gone. Four months into treatment, the anemia was gone and my monthly periods had returned to normal. I recommend this book to all my friends, not because it offers a single, sure-fire cure for everyone, but because it provides a wealth of hormonal information in one volume. Information that no gynecologist or GP had EVER provided me with. When I was originally diagnosed with fibroids, my doctor told me to have any kids I planned to have, then have a hysterectomy. I didn't know anything about hormones at that time, but I knew there had to be another solution. This book provides detailed, fact-based information on the human hormonal system.
Educational For All Women: I was shocked to read the symptoms I've suffered over the past 5 years where all written down in a nice organized manner! I had already started using natural progesterone cream when I began to read this book. The changes are incredible! I have been sleeping like I did when I was 21 years young. I feel so much better in every way and this book has been a tremendous aid to me! I highly recommend it to all women no matter their age.
Hormone cream, the believed cure-all: All of this man's book push hormone cream for everything. If it really was a cure for everything and everyone, then no one would have all the problems such as menopause, endometriosis.... I wouldn't be shocked if he put out a book that said hormone cream can cure ulcers and strep throat. Thumbs down
