From Amazon.com: The Angry Clam is a heartfelt tribute to a clam whose life was as complex as any human's. Indeed, any of us would count ourselves lucky to live through the cerebral adventures of this brave, tortured mollusk. A single, crude illustration of the protagonist adorns each page of this small book, while the accompanying text takes readers on a bivalve's coming-of-age journey. You'll cherish such memorable moments as: "In a passionate fit of self-doubt, the angry clam embraces Islam," and, "So filled with anxiety, the angry clam finds himself frozen in a shell of self-pity." At the risk of spoiling the ending, we'll just say that this is a clam whose life had great meaning. Erik Quisling, whoever you are, thank you for unearthing this saga of a bivalve who fought back. We'll never forget The Angry Clam. --Therese Littleton
you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss $ goodbye: This is a brilliant little gem of a book. Sublimely simple, hilariously clever, every one of the sparse words is perfectly placed. The crude drawings are funny & apt. Together, this teeny story of bivalve enlightenment will make you laugh out loud.
great and quick fun: Takes five minutes to read but is great to share with all your friends...
Well-enjoyed: I loved this book! The humor is very intelligent yet nonsensical. My friends have enjoyed reading this when they come over. The only problem I had with it was that I felt it was overpriced. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Is This A Joke?: I received this book in a box of donated material from our library, ie, books that they can't even rent out for free. Yes it's true, anyone can get published! I'll bet Erik Quisling feels pretty proud of himself, having aquired the status of Published Author, with his story about a Loser Clam right up there with other gems of literature. I still don't know if it's some sick, eight dollar and ninety-nine cent joke played on us by Warner Books, or if there are chunky New Agers in Birkenstocks discussing this book; "Aren't we all really clams, in search of something more, but keeping sealed up?" Need I go into the illustrations, which consist of a kindergarten-style drawing of a clam on each page. The Font Style is something like "Hand Scrawl MS". If you want a laugh, grab some cocktail sauce and dip in. Meanwhile, someone tell Erik to clam up.
A quirky memoir: When I read this book, I laughed; I smirked; and I had to share the experience with others. I shared the book with selected friends, relatives and co-workers who enjoyed this quirky discovery. This delightful book about an angst-ridden clam is not for everyone. The reader must be intelligent and possess a quirky sense of humor. Pseudo-intellectuals will scoff at it. Humor-challenged individuals will find it meaningless. The angry clam is a little book with a big vocabulary that presents a simple story. The book is not about the plotline, however. It simply laughs at pop psychiatry, thumbs its nose at philosophical pretensions, mocks pseudo-intellectual vanity, and generally has fun with the English language.
