[.ca] T'was the Night Before Thanksgiving (ISBN 0531059057)

Yeah! A thanksgiving book that doesn't involve killing:
A holiday that has become focused on the full body and skeleton of a butchered bird is actually quite gruesome when one begins to look at it from the outside, especially as a vegetarian. It's nice to have a book that gives kids an alternative, shows them being proactive, independent problem solvers and guided by empathy and love. An environmentally friendly, great book for all and a very welcome one for vegetarian/vegan families.

Wonderful Introduction To Theft, Veganism, Eco-Terrorism...:
If you'd like to introduce a young child to concepts like smug urban elitist disrespect for farmers, theft of property justified by trendy causes, vegetarianism/veganism, and related rationalizations that will give the child an ethical foundation for eco-terrorism e.g. the Earth Liberation Front -- all based on the premise that turkeys are warm, friendly, fuzzy creatures that would make good pets in apartments -- this book would be ideal, especially if your want your child taught by an aging hippie wearing peace-sign earrings. Sorry to be such a curmudgeon, but after being forced to spend half an hour deprogramming my daughter after she brought this book home from the library, I had to warn other parents. If you believe "no child left behind" should be recast as "every child behind the left", it's your choice, and this book will help your cause. If not, this book is a good example of why you should be careful about what your child is reading, even in first grade.

Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving:
This is a wonderful and light-hearted story. I read it to my preschool class every year and they love it. Of course, we discuss that stealing isn't right but kids are much smarter than we give them credit and they realize it's a fun story. The rhyming and illustrations are wonderful. I highly recommend it for a fun light read.

Ridiculous Leftist pap for children:
Unless you adhere to the Leftist new American PC doctrine, keep your children away from this book. I'm sure one day author Pilkey and his Earth Liberation Front, Green Peace and PETA crowd will get their wish, and we will have turkey (and all meat) free holidays. But until that day comes- when we'll be driving ox carts (oops that would be cruel to the ox) err walking and eating peas and oatmeal for Thanksgiving-please give it a rest. It took us 2 years to de-program our grand daughter after her hoople 22-year old teacher read this to the class. Gee, Comrade Lenin would be so proud of this nonsense. Oh, not the book, just the fact he called the American Left, "useful idiots." P.S. The illustrations were nice.

Clever and Sweet:
My kids and I love this book. Written in the style of 'Twas the Night before Christmas...a group of school children are taken on a field trip. "When what with their wondering eyes should they see, but a miniature farm and eight tiny turkey." A very sweet, non-violent story!
