Golden Orange - I Liked It!: I really enjoyed this book! I have to admit wondering nearly midway through the book where the story was going, but suspense in a mystery novel is a good thing. I never found it boring, though I couldn't guess the outcome. I wasn't disappointed when I saw where the author was going with it. I felt that it had a rather surprising twist toward the end, not one that I anticipated from the beginning.
A weak effort: I agree this book would not have been published if Wambaugh didn't already have a good track record. The plot is a variation on "Body Heat," but the outcome is telegraphed so early that the only fun was seeing how the details would vary. He also seemed to be emulating "Bonfire of the Vanities" in early chapters, but without success. Some of the dialog made me wince.
