Simple, lightweight, Precise Guidelines: it covers many areas like preparing a database for production, conducting recovery, installation and network management. It gives a precise guidelines to take a concept how to start some administrative job and investigation. Of course, it covers some brief steps and ideas, it is enough for me and I can get more details from those Oracle press "Bible" ^_^...Quite Thick and heavy. Simple DBA task list is good to people taking an initial concepts on administering Oracle. If there is a PDA book for it, it is much more convenient!!
Nice stuff to have in your back pocket.: You can formulate(If you're not that documenting kind of a dba;)) to make religiously your own checklists from this simple but very helpful pocket reference. Tarry
Great tool - not *just* for DBAs: The checklists in this 80-page guide are both comprehensive and complete. While this book's obvious value is to DBAs (which I'm not), it is also an invaluable tool for a number of other IS/IT areas. Specifically: * Change control analysts who need to develop or validate implementation and rollback plans * Project and release managers who want to scope out and plan the key tasks for upgrades and implementations * Desktop support folks who install and configure client software * Help desk analysts who are tasked with developing problem screening and identification checklists. For the last group the checklists for confirming network connectivity via Net8 can make the difference between misassigning an Oracle Net8 problem to the network group, which only slows the resolution process. You do not have to be a DBA to benefit from this excellent book.
Good And Concise: A good reference of how things you should worry about. Provides an execellent guide on how to move databases to production. Get it and use it, and when you don't need it anymore pass it on to a Junior DBA.
For DBAs knowing what they are going to do: This is, as the title suggests, a pocket size collection of checklists about how common operations are done. This is a good reference but not a book for you if you are still learning how to use Oracle. DBA Checklists is an excellent reference, when you are performing one of covered operations: - In a hurry - Middle of night (and in a hurry) - First time after few months last time you did it - Making sure a junior DBA does things properly Summary: this reference you want to keep in a bookshelf close to you workstation.
