[.ca] Alison Balter's Mastering Microsoft Access 2000 Development (ISBN 0672314843)

From Amazon.com:
Alison Balter's Mastering Access 2000 Development is a well-written, well-paced, and comprehensive tutorial on virtually every aspect of the new Access 2000, written for any beginning or intermediate developer. With its notable clarity, this book can put basic Access development within reach of many users. As an introduction to or a review of Access and database basics, Mastering Access 2000 Development provides a really strong mix of clear explanations (for tables, queries, and reports) that will let you get up and running. One of the best features of this book is its patient introduction to the world of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming. (If you've struggled to use VB/VBA before, these sections can make successful programming accessible to you.) The decidedly low-end focus of this book doesn't mean that it skimps on more advanced features. Besides showing off the strengths of Access when used with SQL Server (including stored procedures), "black-belt" sections of the book look at Web support and the new Data Access Pages for delivering Web content. Sections on deployment and optimizing Access applications will be invaluable to any working Access developer. Overall, it's the author's skill at explaining the fundamentals clearly that makes this a strong choice for readers seeking to get more out of the new Access 2000. Mastering Access 2000 Development is perfect for the Access user who wants to break through to successful database programming for the first time. --Richard Dragan Topics covered: Access 2000, database basics, queries, reports, form design, VBA, scaling Access to SQL Server, ADO, DAO, client/server, deployment, Microsoft Office Developer (MOD) tools, Data Access Pages and Web support, and advanced features.

Useful "mid-level" reference:
I am not an experienced Microsoft Access user, but certainly beyond just the basics. I needed something to give me a jumpstart in developing a particular application we needed. This book had several good reviews and seemed appropriate for my level and needs. At first I was daunted by its thick size and text-heavy nature. I wasn't sure "where to start." But, once I focused in on the few chapters I really needed to get me going, I sat down with a highlighter and a good desk lamp, and have found it to be very useful! I have yet to put my new knowledge to work, but I am more confident already. I can't compare this book to any others, but I have been pleased with the purchase.

Excellent book:
I bought this book when I started to work on an Access application and found it is very helpful. This book targets toward the intermediate to advanced developers. It provides with many pratical examples and code. We can easily port the code into our applications. The book not only covers the basic and advanced tables, forms, queries, and reports, but also covers VBA, Windows API, security, maintenance and distribution. After reading this book, I became more masterful at Access development.

Best of the lot!:
For me, this book was well written and easy to understand. It provided me with ready-made code that I could easily modify to meet the specific requirements of my application. This increased my productivity and the speed with which I could deliver results. I reviewed a number of books designed for MS Access applications developers, but this one was the best of the lot! I highly recommend Alison Balter's Mastering Microsoft Access 2000 Development.

A must have for Access Database Developers:
This is an excellent overall reference. I would not recommend it as the first book a beginner reads on Access but possibly the second or third. I have been an Access and Visual Basic developer for about 6 years and everytime I have a question I turn to this book first. It has a great index detailed that makes things you need to find. Most books I have to find the major topic I am looking for and then skim the chapter to find the technical detailed information. Overall, this is definately a best buy and a MUST HAVE for Access 2000 developers.
