Buy "Grill Power" book Instead!!!! by Holly Rudin-Braschi: Just purchased the George Foreman Grill, and I am really pleased with it. So, now I need a good cookbook! ...and no, it is NOT true that indoor grilling is the same as outdoor cooking. It seems a lot of folks were hoping the Foreman book would guide them in the use of the Foreman Grill. Alas, not so.... Instead of the Foreman book, these folks need to immediately purchase the following book: "Grill Power: Everything you need to know to make delicious, healthy meals on your Indoor Electric Grill", by Holly Rudin-Braschi. This "Grill Power" book is well-written, well-organized, fun to read, and very detailed...and is designed specifically for cooking with Indoor Grills! "Grill Power" also includes very important information about grill safety and avoiding food poisoning with an indoor grill. "Grill Power" provides info on: design and use of different types of indoor grills; indoor grill cooking times for all kinds of meats, fish, poultry, pork, vegetables, and fruits on different types of grills; information on marinating, rubs, and spices; plus recipes and tips on how to best use grills in the home based on literally YEARS of experience by the author. Happy Grilling!
surprizingly excellent!: I bought this after I bought the grill. Having tried the recipes that came with the george foreman grill and finding them excellent, I decided to invest in a whole george forman cookbook. The marinades are excellent! Many have few ingredients and maximum taste. While they are helpful if you have the grill they are excellent even if you don't. Marinades are a wonderful way to grill, in general. Some of them lend themselves even to panfrying, depending on the cut of meat or poulty. While you cant use bone-in meats in the GF grill, you can use these recipes with bone-in cuts and use an alternate cooking method (grilling, broiling or baking for chicken). This was a big surprize! At first I thought it was going to gimick-y and just a cookbook capitalizing on the GF name. But it is a *study* cookbook in its own right. excellent.
His other book is better for the Foreman Grill: If you are looking for recipes to use on your Foreman grill pass by this book and get "George Foreman's Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine Cookbook" ISBN# 1929862032 by George Foreman & Connie Merydith; Paperback - June 2000, Pascoe Publishing. Its written specifically for the Foreman grill and will get you the confidence to experiment on your own.
The recipes that I have tried have been FABULOUS!: I don't know why this book is getting such run of the mill reviews...I think it is great and have used it for years. The deluxe turkey burgers on page 55 are worth the price of the book alone! They are moist and delicious, and don't taste like turkey burgers at all... and I am a burger fanatic! The marinades & rubs are also great and recommended ~ fat free garlic wine marinade ~ raspberry vinegar marinade ~ are my favorites and I highly reccommend them :) IF you are looking for a companion to the grill, then you may be disappointed...yet I have used my grill with it, and thought the recipes turned out great. If you buy this book loooking for a great summertime grilling book, that helps you cut the fat out of your food...then I think that you will be pleased. My one complaint is that the Texas barbequed beef ribs (p.76)were included in this book...with 1274 calories and 69 grams of fat PER SERVING..they are just a tease in an otherwise heart healthy cookbook (I have to ask...what were they thinking??) ;) Enjoy!
A TASTY ONE FROM GEORGE: With this book, George Foreman demonstrated that his strong hands, which are famous for delivering painful punches, are capable of delivering delicious dishes. Cherie Calbom was his 'corner-man' in this fat-fight. This cookbook is very practical in outlook: employing a step-by-step method. It explained the fundamental routines of tabling low-fat grills (and barbecue). It has a well-balanced approach: providing good tuition on both recipes and their healthiest mode of preparation. The book will bring fun to your kitchen, and smile on your table. However, if you are interested in continuous experiments, its 176 pages may not be enough as to fulfill all your grilling desires. Support it with a more extensive cookbook for the best result.
