Good, even for young sister-to-be: Our daughter was 17-months-old when she became a big sister, and this book was the only one out there that helped her understand the concept of having a little sister. It is written very simply, talking about what the little girl can do and how she is a big girl. It talks also about the baby and what the baby can do, what the baby needs, etc. It is very reassuring, I think, to the older child that they are still loved because they are special. The drawings are very cute and appealing to my daughter - she loves to see the big sister and the baby, the dolls and bears, and the mommy and daddy. I think it really helped her understand the concept and I would really recommend it for any age!
What a wonderful book: We got this for our daughter (2 1/2) to let her know she's going to be a big sister, and SHE LOVES IT. It has QUICKLY become her favorite book and like to repeat the big kid things she can do. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who's going to have a new big sister in the house!
What a gem!: This is a terrific book. The main (nameless) character is a big sister now, and she explains what it's like to have a new baby in the house. ("The new baby is so little...too little to walk, too little to talk, to little to eat candy or apples or ice cream...") I have given this book to little girls with new siblings, and it has become a daily must-read. The book puts the emphasis on the newness of big-sisterhood rather than on the new baby, and that is a treat when there is a newborn in the house. The girls can really identify with the big sister in the book, and they love seeing that other babies do just what their little sibling does! Of course, the book includes the message that Mom & Dad have enough love for the big sister and the baby, and that a new baby is another part of a loving family.
Our daughter can't wait to be a big sister: After reading this book to my 3 year old, she is more excited than ever about being a big sister. Everyday she asks if we are going to the hospital to pick up her baby sister (she insists it will be a girl). We chose this book because we had read that other books talked about conception and we thought for a 3-year old that was a little much. The author does a great job of explaining issues about what life will be like when the younger sibling arrives. This is a must for all those expecting a new arrival. Also the author's picture book regarding this subject is exceptional.
Nice book with one drawback: I bought this book when my son was born for my 2 year old daugther after reading all the good reviews. I like it a lot - except for the bottle feeding reference. As a breastfeeding mom I would have preferred it if the author simply left feeding out. There are plenty of other things that a big sister can do.
