Scotts: I found this book very useful. I am new to the wonderful world of lawn care. This book was very helpful for new people as well as vets. I was a little disappointed that there where no reference to Canadian climates but I guess the Northern States are close enough. I also thought that since it was a Scotts book there would be all sorts of Scotts adds and reference to Scotts products but wasn't that bad in this book. Well done!
Good reference: Worth the price just for the extensive section on weed indentification and eradication with color pictures. Since they have drastically cut back extension agents and services in our area who used to be able to field lawn questions, this is an invaluable reference for the homeowner.
Excellent Book: I found this book to be simple to understand, yet extremely helpful in helping me to do what is best for my lawn. I would highly recommend this book to all who are interested in improving their lawns.
Best book on lawns currently available: Don't let the branding fool you -- this is easily the best book on lawns currently available. I've read many books on the subject, and most of them are very simplistic and useless, or spend some time on the lawn and then go off into growing vegetables or flowers. This one is just on lawns, and contains sections on lawn weeds, lawn pests, types of grass -- basically everything you could think to ask or need to know about how to maintain a great lawn. Makes a terrific housewarming gift, too. I wish someone had given me one!
...shocked at advice...: I bought this book to find a way to deal with pet damage--specifically dog damage! I was disappointed and, frankly, a bit appalled at their advice. The first pearl of wisdom is to try and keep the dog off the grass...oh, please, can we get real? And the other "wonderful" bit of advice is to buy a bigger lawn (as if everyone can afford that luxury) or get a smaller dog--which I think is absolutely ludicrous!! How many people that own a large dog are just going to trade it in for a smaller one? Most people who have pets treat them like a member of the family! I was hoping for a pet-safe chemical treatment...no such luck. I wonder if the authors of this book own pets. The rest of the book seems pretty good...
