One Star is too Many!: I've never been so disappointed in a book. Think about your crotch and smile just about sums it up. Please don't waste your money!
Insane.: An example story from this book; mama gena has a woman in her class who targeted a wealthy man for daddy material. Once she had the baby, she divorced him. Then she asks him to pay for her to go to school. Mama's take on this was that the man was happy to do so, because women are goddesses whom men live to serve and he wants her to be happy. Reading between the lines, I'll bet the man was happy to do anything to get rid of the golddigging you-know-what. The most ridiculous interpretations in this book, however, involve mama and her husband. Mama says that her books are a way to get men to do what you want them to, and yet in every story she tells, her husband gets his way. She moves to great neck with him instead of him moving where she wants. He insists they keep dating other people during their courtship. And what does mama do? Convince herself that she got what she wanted. This book is an exercise in pure delusion.
Inane and insulting ... to women!: Do we really need Mama Gena? Let me put this plainly: this book sucks. Moreover, her message, as in her first book, implies that if only women were crotch-centered, boa donning, feel-good pleasure seekers, all their problems would magically go away and the world would be uplifted. Give me a break!!! This is an insidious message. So let me see if I get it right... if only the millions of women who have suffered violence or depression or experience real pain in their lives would start wearing a boa and thinking happy goddess / crotch thoughts everything would be just great. Mama Gena lives in a fake world and her views are superficial, trite and insulting to women. Don't waste your money is right. Moreover, in my humble opinion, women who care about the plight of real women should boycott her products.
a real boost!: I recommend reading Mama's books in order - first the "Guide to Womanly Arts" and then the "Owners and Operators Manual." Gone are the days of waiting around for the white knight to come and kiss women awake; Mama Gena, with her slightly outrageous and super-frank prose, figuratively bops us on the head and tells us to wake ourselves up! She encourages us to be secure in our needs, our wants, and above all, our femininity... and the result is inner beauty that spills over onto the outside. This radical book is not for the faint of heart, nor is it for the closed-minded! As a matter of fact, the truly closed-minded will probably hate this book. However, if you are open to change and trying a new tack on life, then I encourage future Sister Goddesses to pick up this book and read it cover-to-cover!!
Inspirational and uplifting: Being deployed in Iraq where pleasure is hard to find, I found it to be just the thing to push me to keep my joy. It isn't all about sex, and it takes a narrow minded fool to think that. It is about pleasing yourself as a woman. And being a "woman" is sexual, as well as just a description of gender. I don't know about everyone else, but I've never been happy trying to fit my cute little self into the male ideal of a woman in the army. I'm not a sexless, macho, wannbe guy. I'm a smart, sassy, leadership capable woman. So finding a book that tells me I can have my cake and eat it too was a great thing for me. And even though I'm not a sex crazed ..., I'm a sweet flirt. And what could be wrong with a book that encourages women to find their real desires??? Not a darned thing. I loved this book, and I recommend it to every woman who wants to own her happiness instead of wait for it!
