[.ca] Star Trek: Voyager: Homecoming (Book One) (ISBN 074346754X)

A Thrill:
People say all the time "I couldn't put it down" and one must wonder is the person saying this an avid fan, an avid reader of books in general, or is this truly someone who generally doesn't like books but loved this one? I am the latter. I like reading Star Trek books, but I often take upwards of a month or two to read one fully, simply because I don't necessairily like the process of reading and I always fall asleep on a book no matter how good it is. Homecoming, was one of three exceptions to that rule for me. I truly could not put that book down and finished it in two sittings. (The other exceptions were Farther Shore \othe continuation of this book\c and Echoes). As others have stated it picks up immediately after Voyager returns to the Alpha Quadrant. The story does start off a bit slow, but this slowness is necessary to build up their reactions to being back on Earth and seeing all their long lost loved ones, not to mention how they are going to fit back into society. And then there's the Doctor and Seven.... At anyrate it's a funny coincidence that you-know-what hits the fan just as Voyager returns to Earth and it all directly involves the Voyager crew. Christie Golden, however makes the occurrence very believable and even makes the reader question for a minute whether or not Voyager really is the cause of it all. Although I was disappointed by the lack of information about what happened to the Borg Collective after the events of Endgame, I still rate this and Farther Shore 5 stars.

The journey continues for the crew of Voyager!:
This book did a good job in continuing from the last episode of Voyager, and is also available in book form, with the same title as the TV program "Endgame." I really enjoyed "Homecoming", and I especially liked the various strands that Christie Golden teased out of the book that were already part of the TV series, such as Seven of Nine's relationship blossoming relationship with Chakotay, B'Elanna Torres search for her mother, Naomi Wildman's first meeting with her father and a host of other Voyager to earth experiences. Among all of this though is an earth in flux, the Borg is a constant threat on the horizon and the war with the Dominion has seriously weakened the Federation. Janeway and her crew have come not to adulation and joy (other than to their families and friends) but a time of suspicion and change. And now there is a plague being unleashed upon earth and it is of Borg origin. Seven of Nine and Icheb are being blamed and Janeway once again has to fight for the lives of those she holds dear to her heart... Homecoming has a sequel called "The Farther Shore" and it definitely needs reading to complete this mini-trilogy that started with "Endgame." Good Trekkie fun that doesn't leave you disappointed.

Some of my favorite Star Trek Characters Return:
"Homecoming" by Christie Golden is the first post-Star Trek Voyager book to released. This book picks right up after the events in "Endgame." While I enjoyed the begiinging of the book, "Homecoming" quickly turn in the The Doctor/Seven of Nine/Janeway book. I have admit that when this happen that I began to lose interest. Ms. Golden only spent two or three chapters on Voyager's return and then brought up Holograms rights and the Borg. I would have been more interested on the crew was doing on being home for the first time in seven years. Also, Ms. Golden missed a great chance to tie up the storylines on of minor characters that fates were never know to the viewers/readers. Would I read the second book in the series? Most likely, but I may wait it hit the used bookstore.

Continuing were the series left off.:
A must have for any fan of Star Trek Voyager. I was so entertaining that I could not put it down.

An excellent Star Trek book!:
Even though I grew up with Original Star Trek and still love it to this day, I have also come to respect and even love the many spin-offs. "Voyager" is definitely one of them and this book only cements my love for all things Star Trek as well as sci-fi and good space-opera: "Stranger in a Strange Land", "Puppet Masters", "2001", "2010", "Rendezvous with Rama", "Ringworld", all the "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" books, "Advent of the Corps" and others.
