not so believable: This was a very silly book. I picked it up hoping for something a little more realistic. Instead of first-person accounts or facts, it was full of stories she had created using some of these things. The dialogue was contrived and often the stories didn't focus on real hauntings, but her made-up ones. Pretty much a big disappointment.
Haunted Houses: This book is ok but it wasn't what I expected. It seems like it should be a childs book. In other words I've read better.
Haunted Houses:Chilling Tales from American Homes: I first read this book in 1996. I was so into the book that I could not put it down. It is wonderfully written and spellbinding. I was scared for days(that's all I'll admit to).
GOOD BOOK. UNUSUALLY WELL WRITTEN.: This is one nifty little book! Nancy Roberts weaves ghostly magic here, covering twenty-four of America's most haunted places. The stories are short, about four to ten pages on average. Some are mere vignettes, yet they offer enough detail to pique interest. Others are more detailed and really draw in the reader. She doesn't just lay out the facts - she paints her stories with colorful descriptions and dialogue. Most contributors were personally interviewed by the author and she includes brief historical background on each haunting. Each story concludes with info on the site, such as phone numbers, whether they are open to the public, etc. A few of my favorites are John Stone's Inn, The House of Tragedy, and The Ghostly Greeter. If you want insomnia-inducing fare, read In A Dark Place or the Warren's book The Demonologist. If you enjoy a lighter approach combined with great story telling, this is a definite keeper.
Couldn't even finish, it was so silly: At least the author's impressed with herself--she quotes herself in her preface. Badly written, barely edited, this book smells of "vanity press". Sorry I wasted my money on it.
