[.ca] Flora McDonnell's ABC (ISBN 0763601187)

From Amazon.com:
Imagine hearing that tiny, alphabet-reciting toddler in your lap coming to the letter I and blurting, "I is for IBIS." This is how you'll know that Flora McDonnell's ABC is somewhere in the vicinity. In a sea of colorful alphabet books, McDonnell's may be one of the most marvelously unusual. Yet the quirkiness in no way takes away from the value of the book as a learning tool; indeed, with its bold upper- and lowercase letters, full-bleed illustrations, and combination of large and small items on each page, this little board book is matchless. For "Tt," a stately (capitalized) TIGER reposes, with a (lowercase) teapot sitting absurdly on his head. Four cats cruise (oh so cool!) in a sleek red convertible CAR for "Cc." A tiny ladybug perches on a fat, vivid LEMON for "Ll." McDonnell's splashy colors will wow every reader, and the youngest ones will pick up the rudiments of the ABCs (not to mention some impressive vocabulary, too!) in no time. A true original from the creator of I Love Animals and Splash! (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

What a Fun Way to Learn the Alphabet!:
This is a large, fun, bright, colorful book. Each page has a letter of the alphabet in uppercase and lowercase, and each page has two things that begin with the featured letter. What is especially charming is that one of the two things is a very large item and the other small, and the large thing is spelled in all uppercase letters and the small thing in all lowercase letters. Example for the letter J: JUGGLER/jellybeans. The illustrations are delightfully bold. A wonderful addition to any child's library.

A goodie:
I like this book quite a lot. Each letter has two pictures - one spelled in capitals and one spelled in small case. In fact, I would have given it 5 stars, except that the book uses Giant - too hard for a little one to grasp - and unicorn, which don't exist. Picky, picky I know. Let me assure it, it doesn't stop me (or my daughter) from pulling it off the shelf time and time again.
