Well designed and informative: I was very impressed with both the design and content of this fly tying book. Each photo of the finished flies are very clear, with the materials clearly illustrated. The step-by-step instructions are also clearly laid out and simple to understand. I like the fact that the book is spiral bound, so it lies flat for easy reference while tying. I wouldn't recommend this as the first book for a beginner, because the chapter on basic techniques is a bit sparse, but it is a great book for someone with a little experience.
The Fly-Tying Bible: 100 Deadly Trout and Salmon Flies in St: Very well-illustrated book on the art of fly-tying. The color photos of the steps in tying many popular flies are wonderful. I like the way the book is organized into the major fly categories: dry flies, nymphs (and bugs), wet flies, streamers, and hair-wing flies. I especially like the section on hair-wings since I'm currently tying Atlantic salmon flies. Details in tying the Blue Charm, Stoat's Tail, Silver Rat, Munro Killer and Ally's Shrimp Atlantic salmon flies are all covered in the color photos. The "Bible" is almost as detailed as Randall Kaufmann's "Tying Dry Flies". The Bible is well worth its modest price.
