From Amazon.com: It's hard to imagine any wedding detail that could have escaped inclusion in the pages of Weddings for Dummies. How to build a chuppah, how to anchor a comb in the bride's hair, who dances with whom and when--everything you ever wanted to know about getting hitched is right here. Fortunately, Marcy Blum and Laura Fisher Kaiser aren't afraid to give an opinion or two (there's a list of "Ten Tacky Temptations We Beg You to Resist"), but most of the information is entirely nonjudgmental. It's best to have a much-married older sister plan your wedding, but if you have to do it yourself, this is the perfect book to tell you how.
really helpful: I had heard about this book and so I bought it when planning my wedding. It is even better than I anticipated-the authors are not only funny but they basically cover every single thing you might need to know about planning a wedding and any of the other parties associated with it. While it is not a "tacky" budget wedding-book ( and some of those I looked at were hilarious!) it does give good ideas on how/where to save money and still have an elegant wedding. I can't recommend it highly enough!
Weddings for "Rich" Dummies: As far as wedding planning goes, this book is a decent compilation of customs and how-tos for a "typical", $20,000+ American wedding. The writing style can be extremely pretentious and perhaps offensive to brides with small budgets or who wish to have a truly unique ceremony. Buy a few bridal magazines and you'll get most of the information contained herein, and a lot less preaching on the MUST-DOs of nouveau riche etiquette. It doesn't contain much information on cultural weddings, ideas for very individualistic weddings. High brow brides will find it lacking in top rung etiquette and budget brides will likely give up after the first few chapters. There are much better resources out there - www.weddingchannel.com for starters.
Fantasy Weddings: This book is great as far as letting you know all the steps and parts that go with a wedding, very clear, does a pretty good job overall. My main complaint is that this book doesn't help you out much if you're planning anything less than the "typical" $18,000 wedding. There are a few budget-saving tips, but there are just as many suggestions that are just an outrageous amount of money to spend on one day.
Fairly good book: This book is marvelous help in preparing for your wedding day, laying out all the physical aspects of the wedding from A to Z. Sadly, this book doesn't have much discussion on preparing your heart for the day. It is said that a woman looks forward to her wedding day, a man looks forward to the wedding night - both are important, but men often tend to downplay the day's events as they focus on the evening. ...
And You'll Feel Like A Dummy, Too...: I will say that there is a lot of information in this book. I will even go further and say it wasn't the worst of the terrible bridal books I recently ordered. HOWEVER-- aside from learning some very dry ettiquette rules and such this book has little to offer. Sometimes it is written in a painfully pretentious manner. Also-- if you want to keep your wedding on a budget don't bother with this book if you're looking to it for valid advice.
