This book is helping me to stay slim: I have recently lost over 80 pounds, so naturally, I want to maintain my weight. "Simply the Best Italian" is helping me to plan my meals better and eat more healthily. Downfall? Huge servings of creamy pasta. Solution? A small serving of "Penne with Vodka Cream Sauce" accompanied by "Tricolour Salad". Result? An elegant, satisfying meal which is also balanced and low-fat. (This type of meal is also more authentically Italian than the aforementioned huge, cream-laden serving.) Downfall? Over-the-top rich dishes. Solution? "Chicken Breast Stuffed with Hazelnuts" which satisfies, yet only has 7 points (330 calories and 11 grams of fat) per serving. The soups are also recommended to make ahead of time and microwave at work for lunch. All up, a great way to eat well without getting fat!
Proves that eating healthy is easy!: My mom and I have made several recipes from this book, and we have loved them all -- and we're Italian!! I most recently made the tiramisu recipe for dessert, of which I was a little bit skeptical. We were so pleasantly surprised with the results! It wasn't overly difficult to make, and it tasted fabulous. If you love to indulge in good food like we do, but you want to treat your body right (whether you are on the Weight Watchters program or not), THIS COOKBOOK IS A MUST!!!!
Cook Like an Italian!!: I am currently living in Italy and got this book so I could learn some Italian dishes. I made a traditional Italian dinner (appetizer, first & second courses, salad, fruit and dessert) using only recipes from this cookbook for me and my husband. We could not believe how delicious these dishes were. I did not tell my husband until AFTER he had eaten all the dishes that they were from a Weight Watchers cookbook. He had no idea!! I cannot wait to try even more recipes from this cookbook and have my Italian neighbors taste them!!
Boring Ingredients = Amazing Taste: Remarkable authentic fresh Italian taste without the fat. Try the eggplant parmigiana. The sauce is amazingly fresh and flavorful. The Aromatic Bean Soup made with fennel bulbs, celery, ginger root and white beans satisfied my hunger for "fat" without adding calories. Don't be deceived by how boring the ingredients look because when the dish comes together, the taste is amazing. The recipes are new, low fat twists on old Italian favorites without compromising taste or quality. I would serve these recipes to guests. Some reviews mention inconsistencies with yield or difficulties. Don't let that stop you from trying this book. I like to cook so difficult recipes are not a problem, but I also appreciate the shorter recipes in the book. The different yields actually help the cook learn how to cut down or increase ingredients for serving self or family members. It's nice to have a book with vegetable recipes and soup recipes that have great taste and little to no fat compared with other high-fat Italian dishes. It's my #1 book.
All Your Favorite Italian Foods: If you love Italian food, you'll love this cookbook. It has great ideas for all your favorite foods like Calzones, Deep Dish Pizza, Biscotti, Ravioli, Linguine with Calamari, Meat Filled Tortellini, Mozzarella Bocconcini with roasted Peppers, etc. All of the receipes are authentic Italian. They don't leave out any of the flavor. The portions are good sized and I got to eat all my favorite foods and still loose weight.
