[.ca] Search and Rescue Dogs: Training the K-9 Hero (ISBN 0764567039)

An inspirational guide to SAR Training:
As someone very new to training SAR, but not new to dog training in general, I feared when I first acquired this book that is would spend a lot of time explaining basic obedience and what not. I was pleasantly surprised that it did not! Although the authors do not fail to mention the importance of having a well mannered and obedient dog, they devote every page to SAR. From the history of the American Rescue Dog Association, to selecting and starting a new puppy, right up to advanced cadaver search training, this book is likely the only one you will need to get started in the field of SAR. The lessons are broken down into small steps, and potential problems are highlighted and solved. Actual missions are discussed at the end of this 2nd edition, which I found very inspiring, and after reading this book cover to cover, I am delighted to be using the methods with great success. Any reader will find that the methodology is simple, logical and easy to follow. Five stars for this book - Buy it, read it, and get on your way to SAR!

Search and Rescue Dogs: Training the K-9 Hero, 2nd Edition:
Excellent!!! Five Stars!!!!!

Awesome!:
This book is awesome! I have the first edition,and this one is even better. The chapter on Disaster Missions is both interesting and informative. The steps for training to meet the FEMA standards is something I've been looking for, as well as the training for cadaver work. I can't recommend this book highly enough, both for new and experienced handlers.

A must-read for anyone interested in K-9 Search and Rescue.:
This is an excellent book. It covers a wide array of SAR scenarios, including the new section on disaster searches. A must-read, from the foremost authority on K-9 Search and Rescue. We all have ARDA to thank for bringing K-9 SAR stateside. A fabulous 2nd edition!

A ++ reading! Very Helpful!:
I was new to SAR when I picked up this book. It is very well written and easy for the beginner to read, and has wonderful ideas for the more advanced dogs too. It covers all, from tracking and cadaver to avalanche work! A must have for a new trainer!
