From Amazon.com: War is hell, but if you prepare properly for war, there's not much about life that will take you by surprise. At least, that's the premise of Unleashing the Warrior Within, in which author Richard Machowicz takes the lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL and applies them to real-life situations. For example, in war you learn that there are three dynamic elements of combat: target, weapons, and movement. The target dictates the weapons, and the weapons dictate movement. In real life, your target is what you want; your weapons are your skills; and movement is whatever you need to get in position to use your skills. But, since deciding upon a target is the step that's most troubling to people, he adds another wartime analytical tool called the CARVER matrix. You lay out various targets you may have in life--a better job; getting in shape; buying a new house; and taking on a new business partner, say. Then you assess the criticality, accessibility, recognizability, and vulnerability of the target, plus its effect on your overall mission in life, and the potential return on your effort. Machowicz calls his philosophy Bukido, and when you take his classes in Los Angeles, you learn self-defense along with these life-improvement skills. In this book, the object is to get you to choose a mission that is closest and most important to you, and then achieve your goals with military precision. By the time you're through learning the seven principles of combat, what you've really learned is how to think critically and focus your efforts. Machowicz uses his students as examples of how the enemy in life is really a lack of action, allowing life to take you along for a ride. So if your current target is a solid self-improvement course, Unleashing the Warrior Within could be your most effective weapon. --Lou Schuler
A rare find.: This is one of a very few books I have read in one sitting. As someone who has read all the self-help books I can get my hands on, I had identified self-discipline, organization, and a plan of action as lacking in my efforts to achieve my goals. This book addresses all of concerns, as though it were written especially for me. I can't thank the author enough for the additional tools he has given me to achieve my goals. Only 189 pages, but the author has made each one count. Easily one of the 5 favorites in my library of over 1,000 books.
Wow...: I haven't even read the whole book, I just looked at the pages available on amazon, and covering the CARVER matrix, and already I've been able to sort out my goals in terms of whether I should pursue them or not. This saved me a lot of time, and I'm now focussed like a laser on getting exactly what I want. The story of Machowicz' journey through BUD/S training was also very inspiring. This is a must have book!
This man speaks of truth and learned wisdom: This man speaks of a truth. He has a gift from God for the common sense that seems to be so uncommon and yearned for by people like myself. The other 5 star ratings are right on and anything less than 5 stars would be unjust. Stop reading the reviews and go read it, buy it, and study it.
It deserve 6 stars: Read it and study it are the only advice I have for you. I have bought several book on self improvement and this is my favorite. He gives you several "down to earth"/highly effective way of building a self confident personnality. He used the thing he learn in his 10 years career as a navy seal. HE TEACH YOU HOW HE GOT TOUGH MENTALY AND HOW YOU CAN DO IT TOO.
GO FOR IT!: If you want a no nonsense simple and direct approach to success, you've got it here. I will be recommending this book to my students.
