interesting for young readers: My six-year old just received this book as a present. He his obsessed with birds, but this is the first book on birds he owns that is not a field guide. The book is nicely laid out, with chapters on each of the different classes of birds such as songbirds, birds of prey, waterfowl. There are also chapters on bird behavior such as courtship and nesting. There seems to be an appropriate balance of stunning photographs and text. The text highlights the main points, example "Fast Fishing: Ospreys fly high over water, diving down at high speed to catch fish. Just before hitting the water, they thrust their feet forward and plunge into the water to grap their prey. The osprey's feet feel like sandpaper, which makes them useful for gripping slippery fish." Finally, the book contains a glossary and a list of bird habitats for each of the species discussed in the text. Ideal for any young bird lovers!
