Mr. Subtelny's "Ukraine: A History" rates a notch above Mr. Magosci's. Well-written and very readable. This is the volume one reaches for when facts on the Ukrainian history are required.

Amazing Read:
Growing up in a small town of predominantly Ukrainian settlers, and being of Ukrainian origin myself, I thought I had some idea as to my history. Boy was I wrong. A friend let me borrow this book, and I thought it might be amusing to flip through a couple of pages of it. What started as idle curious quickly turned into a marathon cover-to-cover reading session. This book was so engrossing, so well written, I recommend it to anyone who brings up the subject of Ukrainian heritage. It saddens me how little I knew of this fascinating history. This is probably the only review I'll ever give for a non-fiction book, and I cannot recommend it enough.
