Because it's written in a book: I don't know what planet the first reviewer is on, but because something is written in a books doesn't make it "factual." This PFC Linderer has been busted for using fake military awards to sell more books. What's with all the #'s and stuff, man? This book is the pits. No cited sources to fact-check, no documentation or proof of who wrote what. This book is lame, dudes.
About this author military awards and decorations: On the cover of all Gary Alan Linderer's books he has the following military awards and decorations: "Gary A. In Vietnam, he earned two Silver Stars, the Bronze Star with V devise (for Valor), the Army Commendation Medal with V devise, and two Purple Hearts. His first two books were selected by the Military Book Club." Lack of research and no footnotes: You can tell if an author has spend money and time researching the US National Archives or just writing a "he said we thought someone said" book to make a buck. If this author, PFC Gary Linderer, would have researched the archives he would have found out that Detachment B-36 Special Forces did not have any quailifed Lurps assigned to that unit other than the men who were TDY from F Company, 51st LRP (Airborne) Infantry for a short time in Oct/Nov 1967. The story written about the claims of these men calling themselves Lurps is nothing more than a fake contact. Allow me to explain. No real Lurps would have stopped for chow near a river and then open fire on some noise that they thought they heard. They probably killed some wild pigs. Pork, Pork, pork and more shadow-shooting is what Detachment B-36 Special Forces infantrymen (11B2 MOS) were known for in RVN.
The TRUTH is in the numbers: Phantom Warriors 1 115,499 Phantom Warriors 2 120,935 Eyes of the Eagle 74,883 Eyes behind the lines 70,045 Six Silent Men 1 44,553 Six Silent Men 2 64,323 Six Silent Men 3 51,645 Rencondo 125,464 Death in the a Shau 80,095 LRRP Team Leader 143,658 Wings of the Eagle 109,956 Lest We Forget 174,728 Last but least I snevel 586,563 That pretty much says it all.
Amazing and Inspiring: I have read all of Gary Linderers books and almost all the books still in publish on the 101st Airborne divisons LRRP, LRP, and Ranger units in Vietnam. Everyone I have read by Gary Linderer has been amazing and I have not been able to put them down. This one is no different. I recommend any and all of his books plus books like Recondo by Larry Chambers and the entire Six Silent Men Series.
