Much more than I expected!: I was more than happy when I began to read this book. M. Elliott insists on the necessity and the high merit of practicing and working to reach a point where painting is a second nature. He sheds new lights on the probable way the Old Masters painted and explains that there was no other "secret" than profound knowledge of painting principles and a lot of great talent, supported by years of apprenticeship. Those principles Mr Elliott shares with the reader with clarity and generousity. Another good point is the quality of the book itself; hard cover, large dimensions, full of color reproductions to support the text and a few examples from Mr Elliott great paintings. I'll certainly read it more than once, and will keep it as a high valuable reference in the future.
less than nothing: This book is all hype. If a person is truly an advanced painter they would never bother with this book. Painting directions for the "Masters" are shallow and incomplete. The rest about colors etc can be found in the most elementary brochures, books or color charts.
