Libraries, Access, and Intellectual Freedom: Developing Poli:
Jones has written a very informative and resourceful book for librarians concerning policy development. She starts by tracing out the history of libraries as a public forum, then goes on to give "legal foundation of intellectual freedom in a public forum." Jones's chapters on writing and implementing policies are excellent. She writes in a very easy to read style that helps to convey her main points well. Lists of important things to remember when writing and implementing policies concerning patron privacy, collection development, and internet access are very helpful to point out important things to keep in mind when developing policies. She also includes a very detailed set of appendixes including such documents as the Library Bill of Rights and various interpretations, the American Library Association Code of Ethics, and a Statement on Uses of Filtering Software. This book is a must read for any library professional.
