Covers all the basics, great reference: American houses are so much easier to work on than Europeans, since many of them are built with wood rather than brick. So if you want to do things yourself, you need to learn Carpentry. And this book certainly helps you to learn about it. Even for someone who knew a bit about it, it still offers many tricks of the trade that you would only pick up otherwise, if you worked in serious construction. Plus, as in all the Black & Decker books, there are pictures, and lots of them, that make things so much easier. There's not much missing here, and whenever I want to dig deeper into a particular topic, there are always specialized web sites that provide the extra knowledge. Overall, I would highly recommend the book.
Most of us considering home carpentry need this book: If you are already a tradesperson, this book might STILL be good for review. But, if like me, you are a homeowner interested in repairs and maintenance, and perhaps some light carpentry to plane a door, build some storage or the like, this is THE book. Easy to follow, step-by-step comprehensive instructions with clear photos for each important step, lists of tools and fixin's to do the job, it's all there. Lots of projects, easy to use- a reference I won't do without.
Black and Decker Never Disappoints: I give this book high marks for clear, concise, step-by-step explanations and LOTS of pictures. Even if you know nothing about carpentry, this book will give you the confidence you need to accomplish anything from small projects right up to major tasks.
great book!: Excellent book and a must have for handyman's and homeowners. Well worth it!
