From Amazon.com: As a regular on TV's Bewitched, Kasey Rogers (Louise Tate) has the right pedigree to produce Halloween Crafts: Eerily Elegant Decor. She and coauthor Mark Wood have dreamed up some pretty innovative approaches to such timeworn Halloween delights as pumpkin carving, table decorating, and party giving. Rather than limit carving to traditional orange pumpkins, they offer devilish red imps made of bumpy gourds and green glow-stick eyes, or a jaunty goblin king carved of green hubbard squash. A decrepit old butler figure presides over the "graveyard tea," and the "harvest of skulls" centerpiece features a tower of grinning plastic skulls topped with drippy black (electric) candles. A quartet of simple recipes makes up the "Boo-fey," along with two versions of punch contributed by another Bewitched alumnus, Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay). The home-snapshot quality of the photographs is the one weak spot in this otherwise commendable book. Still, enough details are generally visible to help clarify the occasionally confusing directions, and the step-by-steps are mostly adequately explained. It's exactly what it says: It is exactly as the title reads both"eerie and elegant" but not scary or anything I would like. I guess I was just disappointed that there was "just" elegant decorations for Halloween. Most were decorations that would be great if you had a love for old fashioned almost antique type decorating. Not a book for someone looking to "scare up" any modern ideas for decorating.
Great Ideas that are different from the rest: I really liked this book. Instead of the too cute stuff you find in so many Halloween idea books, this one has some "bones" to it!Great ideas for using life size skulls to create dramatic light fixtures, the directions are straight forward and easy to follow. I've done several of the skull candle holders and am currently working on the wax dripped candle on the stack of books. It is definitely worth the price for this great book!
Finally some adult Halloween party crafts!!: This is a well thought out, easy to follow book. Lots of pictures make this book a must buy for anyone who hosts an adult Halloween party. These are not like those easy, cutesy "country" projects you get in most books; instead they are more sophisticated for the mature Halloween addict. Most of the projects will take some time to make, so buy this book well in advance of the Halloween season. I also enjoyed the recipes and especially the patterns and templates the author provides. I recommend this book to anyone who loves Halloween and is serious about decorating.
Definitely one for the Halloween junkie: If you love Halloween and are looking for something different, this book is one for your shelf. There are clever ideas that can be taken to the next level. Try the gourd goblins! I made about 30 of these (after finally finding the right gourds) and people were begging to buy them from me. Can't imagine what the reviewer who was singing Marth Stewart's praises could be on about. The ideas in her book are really tired compared to some of these. An Excellent Book for Adult Halloween Addicts!!: I'm a true Halloween addict, I must confess. Every year by July I'm "chomping at the bit" to find new and more inventive Halloween craft, decorating, and party ideas, and this book truly fits the bill. Although I have several Halloween craft and party books and enjoy them all, this will be one that I will definitely be using over and over in the years to come. Finally! a Halloween craft and decorating book with not only clear, concise directions to go along with the excellent color photographs, but a plethora of wonderfully ELEGANT ideas for a "spooktacular" Halloween party as well. None of the overly gorey, "kitchy" stuff here! More like the elegance of the parties that those of the Victorian era must have enjoyed. BRAVO! and Kudos to you, Miss Rogers, PLEASE! Do write more, perhaps for some other holidays as well!
