[.ca] Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (ISBN 0879522593)

What a great read:
This book has been an amazing read for me. The author's words challenge me to really think. I realized that this woman was writing about me, and my relationship to God. It didn't seem to matter what religion I was, or what my problems were. Her words were still for me. She is so inclusive! When I found out she had been ill, homeless, divorced, a single parent and penniless, I really related to her. I realized how these spiritual laws that she and other old and contemporary authors talk about, have always been there, and is what she is talking about. Some people call those spiritual laws by different names, but she calls it Christian Science because she sees that those laws are about how Jesus healed. She talks a lot about the healing power of spiritual love. I am amazed that this woman wrote this book over 100 years ago when women were so constricted in their lives. This is a great read, especially if you like to think!

Well, I love this book:
The reviews here are all pretty much one way or another. Most readers seem to like Science and Health, while many others have some strong negative comments/reviews. It should be addressed here, however, that many reviews are about the Christian Science Church rather than the book itself. Some individuals have had negative experiences with the Church/religion, and their experiences are completely valid. I am not about to defend the shortcomings of a human institution in this space. I do feel the need, however, to distinguish between a religion and its book. People, for example, may have had problems with the Catholic faith in their life, but that's no reason to start bashing the Bible or giving it a one star rating. What few seem to discuss here is the book's central thesis, that God exists and that His divine laws should be directly applicable to us in our daily lives. I personally happen to agree with this statement, but I can also understand why some out there would disagree. Maybe they don't believe in God, or don't believe in Jesus' teachings. Maybe they don't think that God can affect their daily lives. There are 100 pages of testimonials of people who were healed of various ailments from reading this book. Will your life be permanently changed by reading this book? It could. At the very least, you will read a book that makes you think about your personal relationship with God. For me, that's something that is without price.

Read the Bible - Isn't Christian Science "Another Gospel":
"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other that that one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say any again: if anybody is preaching to you a gospel other that what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.?" May God Bless and free you. The Apostle Paul, Galatians 1:8-10

Not for Christians , but...:
What's Christian about it???? Read your bible. Try "Christ the Healer" by Bosworth, "A More Excellent Way" by Henry Wright.

A POSTITIVE BOOK FOR POSITIVE HEALTH:
I find this book very positive and encouraging for a person to read often to get a positive outlook on life. The author encourages a person not to worry too much about problems in life and wants a less materialistic and more spiritual daily living. By doing this a person is better able to stay healthy not fearful of getting sick but knowing that our GOD wants us to be healthy, helpful, cheerful, successful and being there for others. The writer encourages daily Bible reading alongside this book and it seems to me to be a good recipe for a good godly life. In the back of the book is about one hundred pages called fruitage which is testimonial of persons healed by reading this book. stephen segall segalls@aol.com
