there are better books on the subject: Colonic irrigations arent necessary to cleanse the bowel.A good colon cleasing supplement will do the job combined with drinking lots of water.Alot of people doubt that colonic plaque really exists, but it does.It occurs mostly in sedentary people with poor eating habits, but can be found in everyone to a degree. This plaque becomes rancid over time in a process called putrefaction which can poison the bowel and lead to various symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, etc. Can also sometimes result in cancer. Moreover, this plaque buildup can block nutrient absorption through the bowel walls,so you dont get as much from your food.Health begins in the colon, and everyone should take care of theirs.
What a Quack!: More new-age junk posing as science. This is hardly better than reflexology or magnets. I guess good for a humorous read if nothing else, but I refuse to sponsor quack medicine.
Skeptics shouldn't knock it until they have tried it.: After doing the colon cleanse he recommends, I found that I DID have lots of rotting stuff in my body! After 3 days of fasting, stuff was still coming out. You can't tell me that was just normal bowel movements. Some of it looked exactly like what is shown in the pictures in the book. It was obvious that it had been in my colon for a long time. Great book for those who are willing to try something other than just the traditional medical route of healing. Medicine can be helpful, especially for symptoms, but this type of treatment addresses the cause of disease, and can have longer lasting effects. It does take a tremendous amount of effort, but the results are amazing. From my own research, I have found colon cleansing to be safe, when a few simple precautions are followed...the tube should not go in more than 3 inches, as Dr. Jensen mentions in his book, and you should be careful not to put too much water in at once to avoid over-stretching the colon. I would recommend consulting a liscensed colon hydrotherapist for advice before trying it yourself, just to be totally safe. There are some health conditions which make it dangerous.
It's a cult, not a reference!: I admit that this book had me going for a while. The first thing you're likely to do is flip to the last few pages to look at the "Shock! Horror!" photos of long rubber-like feces. He leads you to believe, and apparently quite successfully, that everyone has pounds of rotting crap like that stuck to the lining of their colon. His philosophy is that everyone should undergo regular colemas in order to clear out that crap and rid their body of toxins. He also stresses that everyone should have at least 3 bowel movements per day. If you don't, you're poisoning your body. After reading the second chapter and viewing the disturbing photos, I got so obsessed with what's "stuck and roting in my colon", that I became constipated for a week! But then, after doing a little more research, I discovered that colon irrigation is very risky, and is likely unjustified. Unfortunately, Dr. Jensen spends very little effort on explaining the risks. After realizing that Dr. Jensen isn't an authority on the subject of bowel health, I then started noticing a lot of other flaws in the book. Dr. Jensen uses his "credentials" as a "doctor" to justify everything he writes, but really doesn't have anything else to back him up. There are a lot of "I believe" and "It has been my experience" type statements. So the first point I want to make is that this book is NOT a reference. It is an essay (an analytic composition dealing with its subject from a limited or personal point of view). The second, and perhaps more important point I want to make is that anyone who chooses to read this book should do so with caution. They should do their research before they start experimenting on their body. Get a second opinion from a professional. Don't assume that everything in this book is factual. It's one man's opinion. That all being said, this book was an interesting read, and did get me thinking. It just scares me that so many people seem to take it as gospel!
Excellent Resource: One of the most comprehensive and readable books on a delicate subject. This book is a true reference, to be kept, read and reread. No, you won't find the readings used in Medicare or Medicaid, but you will find colon cancer patients wishing they had put its words in practice years ago. The author of the book operated a health retreat for decades, providing many hundreds of people with a new lease on life by diet and detoxification techniques. He was a trained Doctor of Chiropractic prior to his operation of the Hidden Valley Ranch. I found many of his observations and suggestions helpful and informative. This is a 'how to' book, written for potential people who want to get well from degenerative diseases, or avoid same. The author covers nutrition and sample menus in addition to the extensive coverage of tissue cleansing. I find myself re-reading various parts of the book to clarify other information. I heartily recommend this book.
