[.ca] Bones (ISBN 0908311036)

The Beauty of Bones:
I read bones for my African Literature class when l did my Advanced levels and its the novel that opened my eyes as a woman and helped me see the world around me.I still read it to this day. Chenjerai does does great justice in exploring the injustice of colonialism in Zimbabwe and the need for a woman ,Marita to find her son. It's one journey that every individual needs to take to find the one true thing that they love most ,not just that of a woman trying ot find a son. He re-lives the lives of the farm workers ,during the Rhodesian era.How the very life of a person was taken from them.Working hard in the fields and not gettting paid for it. Suffering from abuse at the hands of an oppresor who drains you of all you have and still demands more. The use of idioms and direct translation from Shona to English is amazing. And after all this is done ,there is still another black man to steal and destroy what little you have hidden way ,mainly shown by Chisaga ,the cook in the farm house. His only mission in life is to take have Marita. But the beauty in all this is that Marita is a woman with a mission and will not let anything stand in her way , not even the brutal soldiers . Chenjerai reveals the soul of a woman and cements one truth in Bones ,that "the burdens of womanhood are hard and should be beared with strength" for they start at a young age and will be there all through a womans life and l live by that ,and it makes me a strong woman. Bones is all about love, life ,freedom and sacrifice
