The Life of Moses, by the French poet Edmond Fleg, collects scriptural, midrashic, and talmudic stories about its eponymous hero, in a brief, driven narrative that stands as a classic of 20th-century religious literature. Fleg's psychological and physical descriptions are more detailed than the Bible's. Although Fleg may at times exceed the rights of poetic license, he never falls into the error of making Moses a mere foreshadowing of Christ.
