[.ca] Healing Oils of The Bible (ISBN 0934426988)

Good Reading:
This book, which stands out singularly as an accomplishment to scholarship almost unheard of in this area, in itself, is a tremendous finding. I found some of the comments here quite archaic, which was disappointing but not surprising. The comments onto the validity of the author's thesis by anthroplogists et al was refreshingly balanced. While those who herald merely 'science' as the be all of end alls in authority, and those who, and in particular, one comment, on her partners 'authority' on the matter was not a balanced review obviously. I am very sure that in those times persons found many resources for healing. In fact, we know this by the sheer fact that old testament prophets placed herbal packs on the sick (and so did Jesus). The fact that the holy scriptures are not a medical or herbal or oil textbook is fairly obvious. But hopefully by now, as a scholar myself we can try to 'read' between the lines and source various sources. But it is true, history is never exact. So finding Truth here with a capital 'T' is not a place for someone whom still promotes faith healing as if a living God would never consider practical measures in healing. what a joke!! As for those here who need to seperate 'alternative' with holiness, this is another atrocity in 'labelling'; I cannot think of another God who is more alternative. What an insult to alternative healers indeed. Whether or not the organization of the writer, and association with mult-level, this still doesn't undermine the wealth of rich new learning here. I suggest this book is wonderful for those with open 'labels' only, willing to learn and to discriminate, as only those can truly be receptive to knowledge in the end. Some of the rigidity is a travesty.

the best book I've ever read on healing oils:
This book is the most interesting and insightful book on oils used in ancient times and today that I have ever read. There are those who would say that this is a false book. That you shouldn't waste your money or time on it. For those, I have one question...Have you actually read the book!? I doubt many who rate this book badley have even opened one up. There is so much truth in this book. David Stewart is a great writer and his books are always so interesting. I have learned a lot about the oils that I did not know before just by reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It would make a great gift! If you are interested in the oils and would like to learn about how they were used in ancient times then this book is for you. You won't be sorry you bought it! Try it today!

IT WAS SO BAD I RETURNED IT!:
It certainly wasn't what I expected. 25% of the book repeats in several different ways how many times specific oils/plants/herbs are mentioned in the Bible. A large portion of the book is then devoted to pages the reader can use if he/she wishes to give a seminar. Of course, one would have to purchase the oil mixtures in order to give the seminar. BOTTOM LINE: If you want to spend your money on a book that is a thinly veiled ad for a brand of aromatheropy, be my guest.

Biblical Healing:
Always interested to see different takes on Biblical healing. See also "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan Rubin and "A More Excellent Way" by Pastor Henry Wright.

A COMPOST PILE WOULD SPIT THIS BOOK OUT:
Being the wife of a university/seminary degreed pastor with a theology & history major I can honestly say THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY SOMEONE WHO OBVIOUSLY HAS NEVER STUDIED THE BIBLE IN ANY DEPTH. Annointing oils were never distilled oils (essential oils)and no where in the Bible is there any reference to distilled oils. Olive oil was infused with various aromatic plant material (not distilled) but this was never used to promote healings, it was only symbolic. God did the healings Himself and they were called MIRACLES. Did you miss that part, Mr. Stewart? I'm very sorry but you are obviously no theologian but merely a slick sales promoter for what appears to be Young Living's essential oils and this heretical book. Shame on you also for using Christianity & religion as a sales gimick. Double shame on anyone who is gullible enough to buy this book. It is not of God nor of His Word. If you want to know about Biblical healings read the Bible, not this book.
