Folktales on Stage Children's Plays for Reader's Theater: This book has many short folktales that have been adabted to be used for reader's theater. The reading levels vary. It has been my experience (as well as my fellow teachers) that anything that Aaron Shepard has written for reader's theater is great! Any time reader's theater is mentioned, his name comes up. This book will be a great resource for any teacher interested in doing this type of reading activity with students. Also Readers On Stage. Have fun with it! Also check out his other resources on line. Don't just take my word for it. Check it out for yourself... you won't regret it!
A superb resource for schools: Compiled and written by author and actor Aaron Shepard, Folktales On Stage: Scripts For Reader's Theater collects theater scripts designed for young readers and adapted from the folktale retellings. Each of Shepard's script is quite brief (only a few pages in length), and intended for aspiring young actors ages 8 to 15 and appropriate for a range of reading levels. All of the scripts comprising Folktales On Stage may be freely copied, shared, and performed for educational and/or non-commercial purposes. A superb resource for schools, libraries, and youth-friendly community theater organizations, Folktales On Stage is a welcome and highly recommended addition to school and community theater collections.
