I'm blessed/ made happy with this text:
I was blessed/made happy to aquire this set of the Holy Scriptures. To me this is a trustworthy translation of a traditional, Orthodox text. Compare with the other 'Orthodox' english translation, the Orthodox Study Bible, and one readily understands the superiority of this. The other is based on a western translation, the New King James Version. This one from Holy Apostles is based on an Orthodox text, translated according to Orthodox theological understanding. For instance, the verse in the Apocalypse, 2:10, in the western translation reads "...Be faithful until death...," whereas in this translation it reads "...Keep on becoming faithful until death..." A simple understanding of Orthodox theology and the teaching of 'becoming Godlike,' beginning now and 'until' the ages of ages, 'until' eternity, reveals the Orthodoxy of this translation as well as the necessity of it. Theology matters...yes it does! I found the endnotes helpful and the iconography adequate. Gosh, wouldn't color prints of the icons be even better! Of course, but not the price, so I can deal with that. The endnotes, like I said, help me, and also build desire to do further readings of the Fathers eventually, because, like the Ethiopian eunuch when asked by the Apostle Saint Philip if he understood the scriptures, could only respond "How can I, unless someone should guide me?" Great volumes...buy them now!

Heavy Duty:
The orthodox new testament is an excellent text for those who are already familiar with the teachings of the Orthodox Church, and/or are familiar with biblical Greek. The translation is very accurate, and intentionally as literal as possible. This makes the text hard to read, but have no fear, there are plenty of notes explaining the difficulties. A textual scholar will find this edition to be very handy for reference, with most variant readings noted, and a listing of all ancient texts containing that variant. Many appendixes in the back, mostly of a technical nature.

Best translation of the New Testament:
I have read this New Testament and the companion volume of the Epistles and Revelation with great joy and spiritual enrichment. I plan to keep reading and learning form the depth of the dymanic translation and the comprehensive endnotes by the Church Fathers. Most important is the treating of the Greek tenses so that the dymanic and energetic reality of the energies of God are available which is usually not the case in other translations. I would also like to recommend the new "Orthodox New Testament Research Program" now available on CD ROM where one can search, write notes, form and print research and much more. Wonderful!!

Not only is the translation clear to read and faithful to the original Kione Greek, but the Patristic quotes used for the footnotes, makes it far superior to other "Study Bible" or translations. No Christian should be without theis Bible!
