What if you have a urinary tract infection?: Mmmmm yummy! Common cold? Pee on it. Tastes good, too! What the heck are you people thinking? You aren't gonna pee out anything you didn't already take in. Except by the time you pee it, your body has extracted its favorite nutrients. It's like eating out of the dumpster of your favorite restaurant. Or more like the port-a-potty. So, who wants to take their wine glass out back and scoop up that stuff and drink up!
Fascinating and absurd: This book has entertainment value hence the two stars. The issue here is very simple; goofy ideas and good ideas abound everywhere and at all times- East, West, then and now. As an atheist born in India and trained in medical research in the West with a decent knowledge of Indian philosophy/sanskrit literature, I can say with confidence that the Upanishads are quite clear about body functions in their own simple yet rational way. Excretions are just that...part of post-metabolic process. The trouble is that this tends to get lumped together with credible exercise programs like Yoga. Patanjali the compiler of Yogasutras eons ago, emphasized that Yoga is not magic and is constrained by physical laws of Nature. The origins of the ideas given in this book probably originates from the isolated experiences of people who lived in very arid areas, or times when water was of low quality e.g. just after heavy rains. Survival thus depended on "recycling" liquids which were relatively "clean". This lends itself to easy misinterpretations in the context of the time. We do see this in Nature as in the case of the camel which has done the reverse (sort of). It has a super efficient water conserving kidney. Thus to assert this therapy in modern times is illogical as we still face many confounding factors in modern medical research on another level. You can buy this book for entertainment value; even then not a very good one at that.
kudos to tepi: Kudos to Tepi for describing the book so thoroughly. While I don't think I'll be gargling urine anytime soon, it's fun to think of all the folks out there who evidently do so in the belief that it's, um, "energized structured water" with lots of fun amino acids. Did you know that fecal matter contains lots of powerful nutrients as well? You know, like those undigested bits of corn? Hats off to the wonderful world we live in, with such an astounding variety of fruitcakes.
Huh?!: Are you kidding? Yeech!! What's the matter with you people??
