[.ca] Lauri's Low-Carb Cookbook: Rapid Weight Loss with ... (ISBN 0966796314)

From Amazon.com:
Low-carbohydrate cookbooks are everywhere. Among the favorites is Lauri's Low-Carb Cookbook, a self-published effort that provides almost 200 recipes for a wide range of foods with fewer than 10 grams of carbohydrates per serving. The book's popularity may have to do with its pitch-perfect appeal; it offers everyday recipes for the dishes many Americans love to eat--barbecued ribs, jerk chicken, and chocolate mousse among them. If these recipes adapt food traditions with a very free hand (Lauri's béarnaise sauce calls for sour cream), and require chemical food substitutes (artificial sweeteners, which can appear in recipes that are usually sugar-free), they are also easy to do and fully satisfying. The recipes range from breakfast, snack, and salad items to the usual entrees, sauces, and desserts; winners include the recipes for crab chowder and salmon poached with ginger. Readers should be aware, however, that the recipes have not received editorial scrutiny. As a result, there are errors that range from the embarrassing but not dire (Lauri neglects to tell readers to cook the bacon before using it in her eggs benedict) to the frustrating (Baked Artichoke Savories neglects to mention to bake the savories and for how long). Still, all but novice cooks should be able to fill in the blanks where necessary, and everyone should be pleased with the book's easy low-carbohydrate dishes. --Arthur Boehm

the best cookbook i have ever purchased:
i have had this book for almost a month now and i have made many of the meals listed. i havent found one i didnt like. lauri if you see this bravo on the cabbage with bacon . a few minutes and you have an answer to the steak and salad. not that thats not good but this book gives a variety that uses basics and won't take all day. i make the breakfast squares in custard cups and have one a day with a bit of granola. i was already living atkins way but this makes it possible to see no chance of slipping back to pizza delivery. im eating better now and enjoying more. i was dissapointed that i couldn't reach avalon entp web or find the alpine bakery she mentions but a local bakery has tortillas and pancake mix and so i make due. i have 5 other low carb books including atkins and they are all gathering dust. don't waste your money on them. i hope she comes out with another and i would like more 1 servings perhaps total meal plans that give you carb counts for the day (21) or less for us resistants out here. i am going to buy a second book for a christmas gift.

Very good.:
The recipes I tried were very good and applicable to a low carb lifestyle. I did notice, however, some editing problems amounting mainly to ingredients in the instructions that are not listed in the ingredients section of the recipe. Therefore, amounts remained ambiguous. I just guessed. Cooking is about nothing if not creativity.

The Best in Low Carb Cooking:
I started trying low carb living for my husband and I since we both wanted to eat leaner. So far this is the best low carb cookbook that I have been able to find. Some recipes are a bit high in fat, but you can substitute ground turkey for ground beef and the like. I know that you're not supposed to worry about fat with low carb diets, but I think that it only makes sense to stick with lean turkey, chicken, and fish when possible. Also, the author tends to recommend Sweet-N-Lo as a sweeter, I have used Slenda instead and had successful results. Overall, if you're a beginner or advance with low carb eating, you can probably find some helpful recipes from this book.

My Favorite Low Carb Cookbook:
This is my all time favorite low carb cookbook. I use it more than all of my other low carb cookbooks combined. I've had great success losing weight on the Aktins diet mostly because I use this cookbook. There is a lot of variety and most of the recipes are quite simple and quick to prepare. I love the helpful hints in the beginning of the book. Some of my favorite recipes are the Mock Mashed Potatoes, Hasbrowns, Florentine Breakfast Squares and the Seafood Newberg, yummmm! But there are many many more that I prepare on a regular basis. My husband is even losing weight (and he is not dieting)just because of the great low carb dinners I prepare for us every night. If you are living the low carb lifestyle, than I highly recommend this cookbook.

It's ok:
The intro of this book is helpful, giving a general overview for people who might not know a lot about a low-carb diet. The recipes are varied and there really is something for everyone. The ingredients are not fancy, many of which would be found in most household kitchens or your everyday grocery store. My biggest issue with this book is that it does not tell you the amount of fiber in each dish. This is important because fiber is one of the things that you get to subtract from total carbs (ie. it doesn't count!) and that is important. Some of the recipes are also a little vague and I question the actual total number of carbs if you tried to make the dish yourself. For example, there is a recipe for Alfredo Chicken. One of the ingredients is alfredo sauce, but such a recipe is not found in the book and most brands that I viewed in the grocery store were fairly high in carbs. Like I said, it was O.K.
