[.ca] Beyond the Blues: A Guide to Understanding And Treating ... (ISBN 0971712433)

Thank GOODNESS for this book.:
This is a must read for any woman who is about to give birth. The percentage of women who suffer from some sort of "baby blues" is high so this book is a great tool for the new mom, family and friends to help understand the issues that the new mom may be going through. I only wish I had this book five years ago when my first child was born. I thought something was very wrong with me...this book would have saved me!

Terrificly informative in content and "real" to life:
As a clinician wanting to learn more about prenatal and postpartum depression, I found this book right on target on many levels. "Beyond the Blues" is an easy read in terms of relatable language for all wishing to gain a better understanding of ones self experiencing , loving or helping professionally someone with lower or more extensive feelings of depression during and after pregnany. The book is thorough from assessment, treatment options available , specific dialogue both very thoughtful and helpful when not sure quite what to say or not say .....helpful resources galore and most of all shared real life stories! Great read! I plan to re-read it many times for reminders of the most significant guidelines and support for my ongoing learning and practice !!! Thank you...

You'll need several copies:
As a therapist and trainer, I lend out this book so often that I need to have at least three on the bookshelf.Whether you are mom going through postpartum difficulties, a provider, or a family member, this book is invaluable. The fact that it is divided to address different providers and other supporters makes it extrememly useful. There are other good books on the subject, but I love this one by Bennett and Indman because it is so clearly written, so relevant, and so compassionate. They have accomplished quite a feat -- that the book is packed full of up-to-date information, and yet is relatively short. New moms will appreciate that it is concise and easily-held. Thank you for this book!

From a two time sufferer:
Having suffered through this once it was recommended to get this book. It helped me the 2nd time having to go through it all over again. Now I help other woman with postpartum and I use this as my guide. When in doubt, I pull out the book. I've read all the books on PPD and this one is right on target. It's important to me that the author Dr. Bennett had experienced this disorder. Not many woman know you can suffer this during pregnancy. It's a book to curl up with. Enjoy, I did.

Beyond the Blues:
As a professional who has been working with perinatal and postpartum women for the past 4.5 years I have found the information in this guide invaluable. Beyond the Blues is concise, well organized and clearly written. I am fortunate to be able to recommend this book to families who are experiencing Postpartum mood disorders.
