Help for Autistic children: I really enjoyed this book, I actually read it in one day. It describes in layman's terms about how digestive enzymes can dramatically improve behavior and help with development in autistic children. Karen DeFelice is a mother of two autistic children, and she describes, from her own experience, her journey in using digestive enzymes and how it helped her and her children. As a mother of an autistic child, it gave me some great advice and guidelines for using the digestive enzymes, and described exactly how to go about trying this method, which has been successful in help other autistic children on the road to recovery. After reading the book it is something I will definitely try.
Fascinating journey and learning experience in one book: This book was written with an intelligence, wit, and clarity that is very rare for such a technical subject. Don't be fooled by the title. The book covers autism, PDD, ADHD, Sensory integration disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, and many other neurological and gastrointestinal conditions. The author teaches rather than preaches on the science, experiences, and the how-to of using long overlooked digestive enzymes to help with many related health conditions. I went away with the knowledge I needed to understand the options and make my own informed decisions. Read it before you start any biomedical or behaviorial program. And if you have already started a program, read it so you can finally understand what is really going on, and how it can be improved with enzymes.
Hope for Freedom from Special Diets: Well written, well researched the author shares with us her frustrations with her 2 special children on her journey on the road to find out. All this is mixed with wry, humorous insights so there are many chuckles in this otherwise unique presentation on the very specialized area of enzymes. The HOPE that she offers to the families is so exciting because the special diets recommended for autistic children are so restrictive. Her subtitle says it all: The Practical Guide for Digestive Enzymes & Better Behavior.
Very easy to understand: I found the information in this book very easy to understand. It put the pieces of the puzzle together that were missing for me so I could finally understand the whole picture of why food affects my child. I could clearly make a mental picture of the digestive system in my mind and how it works by the way it was described in this book, and that helped me a lot. I have purchased extra copies of this book to give to family members and friends so they too can understand how this is all affecting my child.
Great book, easy to understand and very helpful: I wish there would of been a book out like this 5 years ago, Karen DeFelices book Enzymes for Autism and other Neurological Conditions is great and I have found so much valuable information.Having a child with Autism I understood her struggle and need to find anything to help her children. The book is so well written and I am so grateful that she was able to write about her struggle and her findings and put them into a book that everyone can understand..I am able to now go to my daughters doctor and go over different approaches I feel will benefit her..Thanks Karen for the wonderful gift you gave to many..
